We noted earlier a study from the Harvard Medical School that calculated that for every 10% increase in gas prices there was a 2.3% decline in auto deaths. Now a new report from Michael Sivak of the Transportation Research Institute at the University of Michigan finds an even more dramatic fall. Associated Press reports that: Over the previous 10 months, monthly fatalities declined an average of 4.2 percent compared to the previous year. Then, Sivak's ...

Every year, Peugeot launches a contest call for entries from the international design community to showcase their talents in a concept car showdown. The theme for this year’s contest requested that they imagine a Peugeot in the megalopolis of tomorrow, and by the looks of the entries, (such as the Stylight above), they definitely delivered. If you think that you’ve seen concept vehicles, you ain’t seen nothing yet. (more…)

This ultra contemporary house is located in the Paradise Point suburb of Australia’s Gold Coast. I love how this house looks from the outside, but I don’t know why the interior reminds me of a shopping mall, huge …with so little things in it. The 14-room house is thoughtfully planned to offer open-concept social spaces and private spaces. The spacious mail level mirrors the modern and geometric elements of the home’s exterior, with high ceilings, ...

There's been some confusion about the size of the .NET Framework. The .NET Framework is not really a 200+ meg download. Which installer do I use? Here's the whole thing in a nutshell for Developers, ISVs, and Administrators. Offline Installer - One single file that can be run offline and can install the .NET Framework any system it's run on. It's complete, all platforms, installable offline. Online Installer - A 2.7 meg setup program that ...

PureText is one of the first tools I always find myself missing as soon as I set up a new Windows box. Have you ever copied some text from a web page or a document and then wanted to paste it as simple text into another application without getting all the formatting from the original source? PureText makes this simple by adding a new Windows hot-key (default is WINDOWS+V) that allows you to paste text ...

Vito Rispo, on the danger of red-light cameras: In fact, six U.S. cities have been found guilty of shortening the yellow light cycles below what is allowed by law on intersections equipped with cameras meant to catch red-light runners. Those local governments have completely ignored the safety benefit of increasing the yellow light time and decided to install red-light cameras, shorten the yellow light duration, and collect the profits instead. Despicable. (Via Jack Shedd.) ★

I don't really know much about fonts, but I still love them; particularly monospaced fonts for writing code. I've tried a lot of monospace fonts over the years, including two of my past favorites: Consolas and, more recently, DejaVu Sans Mono. Great fonts both. However, I'm a huge fan of Damien Guard's Envy Code R font. It's an absolutely beautiful font all around and Damien has put a lot of effort into making it very ...
