We generally don't like to get all political here, because TEAM AMERICA's skewering of entertainment types thinking they should butt in and try to change the world is too perfect. But without delving into the whole sexism versus racism thing that the pundits are turning this year's presidential race into, we do have one issue that we've been supporting - the movement to Stop the Domain Subsidies. This is a local issue, and one that ...

I love the Thin Man movies so during vacation I thought it would be fun to read the book. After about three pages I realized that The Thin Man is nothing without William Powell. The words are the same but William Powell made them jump and gave them such life! This is one of the few times that the movie is so much more entertaining than the book. Am I wrong?

No, he's not wrong at all. The book was a bit boring. I read it a few months ago: http://hyfen.net/in/reading/2008-06/the-thin-man-dashell-hammett/

Just sent to Last Days from Hot Tipper Jack: I was standing outside of King Cobra last night around 12:30 when two guys decided it would be hilarious to steal the hat off the head of notable Seattle hipster Slats, who was standing nearby. One of them grabbed it and they took off running. Slats got about ten feet after them but then he dropped his head band, which he had to stop and go ...

If you read this blog regularly (or at all for that matter), you know I can be highly critical. However, like most critics, it appears that the person most in need of criticism is myself. Just as Eliot Spitzer pledged to root out corruption yet used governent funds to pay for sex, I myself am guilty of violating the very ideals for which I supposedly stand. Yes, I, who have lambasted bike salmon and bike ...

Slog tipper Kristi writes: There is a fairly large herd of actual GOATS hanging out in the I-5 greenway by Pine St. and Boren, below the new dog park (down about 1 block west from the Baltic Room). Seriously! I can see them from my office. There is a also a collie going nuts because I think they are inspiring his/her natural herding instinct. Do you know the back story on this?? I do not, ...

Like some sort of real-life Gargamel (a single, balding man who lived alone with his cat), Stuart Ross, who brought the extremely gay cartoon show The Smurfs to these American shores, has been arrested for extortion. He was trying to bilk his son-in-law out of millions of dollars, threatening to ruin his reputation with some questionable emails or something. Then he cackled and scarfed down some Smurf berries and desperately tried to work up the ...

Just look what they did to this motorist in Florida: Police recently arrested a woman they said deliberately hit a bike rider and crashed two separate cars, and then ran off naked. Holly Highfield faces DUI and several other charges after witnesses said she intentionally struck a bicyclist, took off her clothes and ran around the crash scene, then drove off the road while attempting to leave the scene in someone else's vehicle. She probably ...

Yes, the sexy electric car that's the darling of Valley cleantech investors, on the road that runs through the heart of venture-capitalist country. With so few Teslas in the wild, there can't be that many possibilities on who the unlucky buyer was. Let us know in the comments which rich guy you think was ...

Ed Park's wondrous personal blog, The Dizzies has a link to a delightful website that has portraits of every American president... ...made out of hair! (There is no indication whether the hair is human or animal.) The misspellings are especially charming: "Andrew Jankson" was our 7th president, and "James knox Palk" was our 11th, to say nothing of "Ponald Wilson Reagan." There are also portraits of Marx, Lenin, Princess Diana, and "Einsetein."

Ask yourself this question: what would it take for you to call a race your best ever? Would you need to win? Set a personal record? Move up in your category’s standings? Those are the things I’ve always wanted from a race. But last Saturday at the Leadville 100, none of those things happened. I’m overweight. I’m unfocused. I was considerably slower than last year. I dropped in the standings from 135 to 268 — ...
