Yes, people. You’re looking at the first shots of Amazon’s Kindle 2. The follow-up to their popular e-book reader. Our ninja sent us a ton of shots, and we have to admit, they look pretty good. The unit didn’t go down too much in size which is unfortunate, but then again, you want something pretty large so it’s comfortable to read on. He says that the unit is a little wider and a little longer, ...

Tonight my friends at Current invited me to check out the behind-the-scenes action at their first ever Hack The Debate event where they joined forces with Twitter to provide real-time Twitter updates during Current’s broadcast of the presidential debates. While at the Current offices we were greeted by special guest Al Gore, who co-founded Current along with Joel Hyatt. I shot video of Al’s welcome speech where the subject of Twitter came up and he ...

The Obama v McCain race for the White House has been run before - NBC's The West Wing pitted a charismatic, non-white Democrat against a maverick, experienced Republican. In the The West Wing's fictional 2006 election, actor Jimmy Smits played Latino presidential hopeful, Matthew Santos. He announced his intention to run with the words, "We live in cynical times, but hope is not up for debate… there is only hope."

//...so far at least, events have been a strange case of art reflecting life, reflecting art.//Also read, "2008/1980", by George Packer://I’ve begun to believe that the best analogy for 2008 is 1980. The country desperately wants to get rid of a failed Presidency and the failed policies of the party in power; but a lot of people still don’t trust the new guy. If true, then the debates will decide this election. After Reagan appeared with Carter on October 28, 1980, and more than held his own, a close race turned into a landslide.//http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/georgepacker/2008/08/20081980.html

There’s a graph that Obama supporters are sending around, showing the differences between the Republican and Democrat tax cut proposals. It shows that Obama is not in fact planning to raise taxes - he’s planning to cut them for all but the very, very rich. I couldn’t help but notice though - the graph is still massively weighted towards the interests of the super-rich. For example, the bottom two-thirds of the population are given only ...

Talking to Charles Gibson tonight, Palin sometimes reminded me of poor Miss South Carolina, who, asked why many Americans can't find the U.S. on a map, famously said: "I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps. And I believe that our education, like, such as in South Africa and the Iraq, everywhere, like such as, and I believe that they ...

At Lord’s, the home of Middlesex, county members and supporters call him the ‘Special One’. He has been rated the best overseas player Middlesex has had since Desmond Haynes. That was 19 years ago. Since then, they have had players like Glenn McGrath, Justin Langer, Stephen Fleming, Jacques Kallis and Lance Klusener.

I think I might be able to explain some of Sara Palin's appeal. She's the "American Idol" candidate. Consider. What defines an "American Idol" finalist? They're good-looking, work well on television, have a sunny personality, are fierce competitors, and so talented, why, they're darned near the real thing. There's a reason "American Idol" gets such high ratings. People identify with the contestants. They think, Hey, that could almost be me up there on that show!
