In an appearance on Morning Joe, Rudy Giuliani tried to stir a fake controversy over former President Bill Clinton’s speech tonight at the Democratic National Convention. “Are they gonna have him on in prime-time?” Giuliani asked, “or are they gonna do to him what they did to Governor Warner and stick him in two slots earlier.” (Clinton will speak in the 9-10 pm hour ET.) MSNBC analyst David Shuster immediately shot back: “Yeah right, as ...

I was a little bit surprised to see Malia Lazu, a friend of mine who I haven’t seen in quite some time and who I didn’t think did this kind of work, on Fox News with Neil Cavuto earlier this afternoon. But there she was, responding to Cavuto’s charge that John McCain’s critics are “bashing the American dream” for pointing out that it’s a bit rich for a guy who can’t even keep track of ...

photo by Zeetz Jones on Flickr I was on a panel at Bandwith Conference last week and the “Who is going to play The Staples Center in five years?” question came up again. I answered (again), “Who the fuck wants to see a show at The Staples Center?” Do we judge the health of the music business by how many people are pulling half a mill in a single show at a terrible venue? I ...

To say we were excited at the prospect of helping David Byrne and Brian Eno release their new album would be an understatement. Not only are we huge fans of their recorded output both together and apart, but their previous collaboration under the same moniker, the pre-sampling cut/paste masterpiece My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts was one of the inspirations Topspin co-founder/chairman Peter Gotcher drew upon when creating ProTools with his team at Digidesign. ...

Blogs have clearly turned the media industry upside down,, with many providing coverage superior to that of newspapers and television. While most of them read poorly, some are excellent, and these are monetizing by quality ad networks with their content and traffic. Here are eight players in the blogosphere worth watching:

My first computer, purchased by my parents after nearly a year of begging, was an Apple II+. That was 1982. I was a Windows user for the next 20 years, but went back to Mac when they switched to Intel chips a couple of years ago. Since then I’ve bought seven Macs for myself, as well as at least one of every iPod and both iPhones. A lot of these were test devices that I’ve ...

We haven't suffered through the Mobile Me debacle, but we have really noticed Apple quality slipping lately. I even experimented with going back to Windows, but obviously that didn't work.

I know Gruber needs to satiate the Mac fanboys, but the point is this:Perhaps Apple should spend a little less time & money on ads making fun of Windows-based PCs, and instead work harder to make its own products better. As a customer, nothing riles me up more than seeing a high-definition primetime ad touting how AWESOME Macs and iPhone are, when there are significant outstanding issues with both. Don't even get me started with the MobileMe disaster...

I completely agree with John, Mike's rant about his computer problems is meaningless and should be posted on his personal blog not TechCrunch. It seems to me if he were to spread out his computer purchases outside of Apple he would see that gadgets and technology fail a lot - no matter if you're dell, acer, HP or Apple. The key to a great computer/consumer-electronics company is their service and as you can see people are ultimately satisfied with Apple, regardless if there were technical issues.

Its crazy that this guy is still semi-positive about apple... it just goes to show you how crazy the reality distortion field is... if even half of this crap happened to me, I'd never buy an apple product again. Luckily I haven't bought one since the 4G ipod.

Tyler Colman, reporting for The New York Times: A standard wine bottle holds 750 milliliters of wine and generates about 5.2 pounds of carbon-dioxide emissions when it travels from a vineyard in California to a store in New York. A 3-liter box generates about half the emissions per 750 milliliters. Switching to wine in a box for the 97 percent of wines that are made to be consumed within a year would reduce greenhouse gas ...

In some countries, you can buy wine in boxes that's actually good. We would take a nice step forward if one or two reputable wineries made the switch.

Here's a great example of public education through peaceful protest. About 25 enthusiastic protesters held up signs and greeted the 150 or so guests arriving at San Diego trail attorney Charles LiMandri’s Rancho Santa Fe estate yesterday. The $100 per head fund-raiser was sponsored by the San Diego County Republican party and the Yes on 8 Campaign. Guests were greeted at the front gate by the two dozen protesters and handed a copy of a ...

We also noted that CBS’s political coverage is sponsored by ExxonMobil. Now, it appears that National Journal has also opened its doors to Big Oil sponsorship, announcing on its website that its coverage of the 2008 conventions will be “presented by ExxonMobil”: Digg it!
