Coca-Cola readying 100-flavor soda fountains (30)
on Engadget (14459) permalinkFiled under: Misc. Gadgets Your typical soda fountain in a fast-food joint features eight boring choices, usually offering nothing more exotic than "Orange." It's been that way for decades, but one of the oldest players in the market is finally shattering that paradigm. Coca-Cola is introducing a machine that can pour 100 different flavors. Early prototypes underwent testing earlier this summer and second-gen units are headed for limited markets early next year -- the same ...Shared by 100rabh™ (103) 2Bad (93) Adrian (84) beanj007 (52) Brian (68) Brodie (23) Caleb Elston (107) charris1980 (165) Convoluted (136) Dan (32) Davis S (138) Earl E Morningwood (153) flipp (30) Guy (976) Jeff (183) Jeff the Great (27) Kristen (627) Leena (3061) louisgray (653) Maury Postal (18) Mike F (2148) Nichol (90) Noah (19) norti (94) Randy Meeker (43) sirmikester (118) TedCHoward (32) Vox (138) Wayne (251) Wayne (185)

Mythbusters Pain Mona Lisa INSTANTLY With 2100 Paintballs! (19)
on Gizmodo (17965) permalinkIn a presentation made at Nvidia's NVISION show this week, Adam and Jamie unveiled a 2100 barrel paintball gun and—in an instant—painted a pretty convincing (if not slightly drippy) Mona Lisa. In typical MythBusters fashion, the incredibly elaborate experiment was only tenuously linked to their hypothesis. The presentation was intended to represent the difference in operation between single and multicore processors, referring to current gen CPUs versus GPUs, respectively. Of course, the reality of parallel ...Shared by Adrian (84) ashburn (34) Ben (28) BenJamin (34) Brian (49) Eric (47) EricTheDJ (23) everyone loves a wee sombrero (399) GarthDB (62) hikikomori (206) jon|k (116) justin (8) Kyle Bamford (72) lostalpinist (22) Mark (274) Nikki (179) Tim (14) Vorak (48) Wesley (15)Contribute comment

High school students hacking electronic tests (5)
on Hack a Day (1304) permalinkFiled under: news[Alex Papadimoulis] wrote about ingenuity and hacking in high school. Immediately after the teacher's installed a new electronic note taking and test giving software, the students began hacking. They managed to find several ways to ace their tests, none of which involved studying hard the night before. Ultimately, the teachers went back to the old system to prevent such shenanigans.[photo: COCOEN]Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | CommentsContribute comment

How Google Earth Helped Win A Gold Medal (80)
on TechCrunch (25780) permalinkGoogle Earth is getting a nice plug from Olympic Gold Medal cyclist Kristin Armstrong. When she did her time trials in December, 2007 in China, she took along her husband’s GPS unit to capture the elevation along the route.
