If you place a quarter over the cap of a bottle of beer before you open it, the top of the cap won't bend and you can put it back on the bottle so the beer will keep overnight. In our case a 22 ounce bottle of Elysian Avatar Jasmine IPA was still good when we returned to it after two nights had passed. Thanks to the good people at Full Throttle Bottles for the ...

Earlier this month, I led a workshop called The Practice of Simple Living. The group of attendees were from many walks of life and came from all over the world. The one element they had in common was that they expressed that they wanted to explore ways to carve out more space (literally and figuratively) for the things that matter in their lives. Once we got into the nitty gritty of the workshop, however, it ...

The NY Times has an article today about LED lights on it's website, saying that LED bulbs are the next step in energy efficient and long-lasting lighting. I'm all for it, I think it's a great next move. They last several times longer than an incandescent bulb. The only problem is they are still really expensive. A quick check of amazon.com--and I found that some indoor bulbs cost as much as $30--per bulb. What do ...

I work from home. Whoever says that working from home is easy has lied to you. It's very hard and you will work more than you ever did in your life! On the upside, it's also very rewarding and invigorating. But that doesn't mean there is no stress involved. If you work from home, how do you conquer stress? I find mini ways to relax throughout the day in order to increase productivity and overall ...

Google Bookmarks is sporting a new look and feel, boasting a quicker interface and an "infinite scrolling" feature that dynamically retrieves more bookmarks when you reach the end of your list (kind of like Google Reader). The new interface has moved Bookmarks to the confines of Google Notebook and is being called "a better way to organize your bookmarks" on the old Google Bookmarks home page. Google Operating System notes that old Google Bookmarks features—like ...

Never looked into Google Bookmarks before, as I use Foxmarks to synchronise across multiple Firefox browsers. However, after trying Del.icio.us today, and realising how much work it is to share (can't seem to multiple select) my imports, maybe Google Bookmarks is worth a look - especially as I use Notebook.

This would be great if there was a way to import from del.icio.us - but as is, I can't imagine trying to switch.

The manufactured excitement of a reality show finale is both exhilarating and depressing. Exhilarating because, in the world of this show, one person will rise above the rest and have themselves declared the winner. Depressing because, in a few hours, the whole set will be swept away, memories of all the other contestants will vanish, and the winner will have a few weeks to sink or swim and if they sink, they'll vanish too. Mostly, ...

Google Calendar has added support for the CalDAV standard, opening up a realm of syncing possibilities for business users and webapps. Right now it's somewhat limited, with a few known issues, but the big news is that it's now possible to sync your iCal and Google Calendars without any third-party software. As the Google Operating System notes, however, it's not an entirely simple process to hook the two up, so a free option like recently-made-free ...

You might have observed that iPhone syncing with firmware 2.0 takes a very long time. The real culprit for this is the iPhone backup process which takes majority of the time. It appears that the reason for the long time taking backups is because iTunes is taking a complete snapshot of the iPhone applications that you have installed on your iPhone for restoring purpose instead of taking back up of only the applications documents and ...

New York may have bigger rats, but according to New York Times food writer Frank Bruni, D.C. may have a "cupcakery" that beats out New York's iconic Magnolia Bakery. Bruni samples and gushes at length over Georgetown Cupcake's massively popular treats, though he still manages a minor swipe at D.C.'s food scene.

He was patted down, his wheel chair was examined and his hands were swabbed, all in public view in ...
