Filed under: Odds and ends, iPhone This Business Week article describes the rising demand for first generation iPhones. "Shelf prices" (using eBay values of virtual shelves) for the 16GB iPhone are currently at about $600, and $500 for 8GB models. In other words, the $250 AT&T refurb specials from March are now worth roughly double what you paid for them. From easy-unlocking to contract-free usage to eco-consumerism, consumers are looking for those original units and ...

In a presentation made at Nvidia's NVISION show this week, Adam and Jamie unveiled a 1100 barrel paintball gun and—in an instant—painted a pretty convincing (if not slightly drippy) Mona Lisa. In typical MythBusters fashion, the incredibly elaborate experiment was only tenuously linked to their hypothesis. The presentation was intended to represent the difference in operation between single and multicore processors, referring to current gen CPUs versus GPUs, respectively. Of course, the reality of parallel ...

Always pleases me when Adam and Jamie don't waste time making poorly planned scientific studies. And the CPU/GPU comparison is cute. Very impressive work.

NuVo Renovia delivers whole-home audio over powerline (1)

Filed under: Misc, Cables Faults notwithstanding, powerline is still mighty scrumptious in theory. Evidently NuVo Technologies agrees, as it's cranking out what's possibly the planet's first whole-home audio system that relies on existing A/C wiring. The Renovia can deliver audio and metadata throughout the house by simply tapping into the power wires already within your walls, and in case you couldn't guess, it's using the HomePlug 1.0 specification in order to do so. The central ...

I'm not sure who is getting the Magic Treehouse Bedroom that is currently being constructed by the craftsman at Kidtropolis, but I'm jealous. When I was a kid, I didn't have any fancy indoor treehouse to sleep in—just a cot and some newspaper. Still, I am not too bitter to recognize the artistry that goes into making a custom bedroom of this caliber. Just don't let your kids see it—unless you have a lot of ...

We've seen the BlackBerry Bold and iPhone head-to-head before, as well as the Bold's greatly improved browsing powers over past BlackBerrys, but not side-by-side in a web browser race. It actually gets pretty ugly, uglier than we thought it would. Update: So it looks like in Mobile Computer's test the Bold was either dropping off of Wi-Fi or wasn't on it at all. We've emailed them to see what's up. With both running on Wi-Fi ...

heh, no surprise to see blackberry os still sucks in so very many ways. They might have finally got their browser engine beyond HTML 1.0 spec, but even a ye olde 2G iPhone loads pages faster than the 3G bold. And that UI is like putting lipstick on a pig.

There must be a quick and dirty way to do this. I'd settle for about 35% of the visual appeal and still be pleased with myself. But the folks at Kidtropolis are professionals. Just don't think about the price.More photos after the jump. I've had fantasies about kids' in-floor storage for a while. Against the wall is a drop-down table with hinged legs (you can see it in the top photo as well). Make no ...

Vito Rispo, on the danger of red-light cameras: In fact, six U.S. cities have been found guilty of shortening the yellow light cycles below what is allowed by law on intersections equipped with cameras meant to catch red-light runners. Those local governments have completely ignored the safety benefit of increasing the yellow light time and decided to install red-light cameras, shorten the yellow light duration, and collect the profits instead. Despicable. (Via Jack Shedd.) ★
