Filed under: Misc. Gadgets You hear so much tough-talk and blustery grand-standing these days over data capping that it's hard to take any of it too seriously. A recent announcement by Comcast, however, is sending chills down the collective spine of Engadget (and seriously threatening to put a crunch on Thomas Ricker's... er, "movie" downloads). The company recently confirmed that it will begin capping its residential broadband service at 250GB per month (or roughly 124 ...

This is bullshit. The internet is for everybody. It's bad enough we have to pay for it. Now we can't even use it. I know I break about 400 gigs a month so I will never be getting comcast.

Last night at L.A.'s legendary Hollywood Bowl, Radiohead performed an acoustic cover of Neil Young's "Tell Me Why", the heartstring-tugging opener from After the Gold Rush. A couple of poor quality YouTubes were posted around a bit earlier today, but Gorilla vs. Bear has the winner here, a nice clear clip on Vimeo that puts you right in front of the band. Cincinnati Enquirer Nick Clooney -- actor George's dad -- is the "distinguished journalist in residence" at American University this fall. Becoming a college prof has finally forced the 74-year-old to buy a computer, reports John Kiesewetter. Until a few weeks ago, he had never sent an e-mail, watched YouTube or looked up something on Wikipedia. Clooney says his son won't make an appearance in his classroom because "he's too expensive for me."

A friend of mine recently slimmed down on Weight Watchers. She joined two months ago, and in just a couple of weeks, she'd shed 10 pounds. She'd been trying for a year to lose weight, but nothing worked -- until now. Why did Weight Watchers work so well? For a really fascinating reason: because it isn't a normal diet. It's something more. Something fun. It's an RPG. The Weight Watchers program is designed precisely like ...

This is a cool take on "playing" the Weight Watchers game. I imagine this would be more palatable to say, overweight gaming addicts of there was an actual avatar that lost weight and leveled up based on the data of the real person. Add in some competition and it'll be all the rage. Though, given some peoples competitive natures, we may end up with a bunch of skeletors. *eek*

The past two days have been the most disheartening in my life. Basically, I have come to the understanding that there are certain biases that exist in the media that will never be balanced, simply because they cannot be.The media is used as a tool of propaganda...to give select information and facilitate action. Such is the case in the current situation in Georgia's break-away republic of South Ossetia. For those of you who might not know, ...

For decades, a 4.5 mile gap on the 710 Freeway between Pasadena and Alhambra has been a headache for many commuters. The freeway, which begins in Long Beach, was always planned to be finished, but lawsuits and a storied history within the city of South Pasadena stopped that. In an unexpected and maybe confusing move, the South Pasadena's city council voted to support a state bill that would allow Metro to seek private financing for ...
