The most recent tablet-related patent filing by Apple fits the "big iPhone" idea that's been bandied about by internet yahoos such as myself, and has been described as looking like a "large mobile internet device," which in this yahoo's opinion is a little obvious. I'd love to see a MacBook Air-thin or thinner portable, touchable device take up Apple's noticeably absent tablet PC slot, especially given the mysterious "product transition" we've heard will come about ...

In a surprise move, Sen. John McCain announced Friday that he had chosen Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate, shaking up the political world at a time when his campaign has been trying to attract women, especially disaffected supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. In choosing Palin -- a 44-year-old conservative and mother of five who has been governor for less than two years -- the McCain campaign reached far outside the ...

Up until the most recently, I have been first and foremost a PC gamer. As someone who has owned an x86 derivative since the mid-to-late '80s, I can honestly say that the state of PC gaming has gone progressively down hill. Quality assurance has slacked, development times have grown exponentially higher, zero resale value and inhibiting system requirements all result in an industry that is not conducive to someone who cannot afford persistent hardware upgrades. ...

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin wants creationism taught in science classes. In a 2006 gubernatorial debate, the soon-to-be governor of Alaska trotted out the usual creationist education canard: "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of education. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both." Teaching evolution and creationism in a scientifically balanced way is simply impossible. Evolution is accepted by scientists as ...

And with a few more weeks to go in the summer thaw season, 2008 could surpass 2007 as the smallest amount of sea ice on record, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). [More]
