Everyone seems to want video functionality on the iPhone 3G but Apple, for whatever reason, has not allowed it. Maybe the company is waiting to launch its own app to do it, or maybe it cut a deal with AT&T so as not to completely clog up their 3G lines. Either way, video streaming on the iPhone 3G is here now thanks to Qik — assuming you have a jailbroken device. Qik, the live video ...

Apple’s Mobile Me just deleted every single item from my Outlook calendar on Windows Vista. Gone. Deleted. Luckily I have them backed up on Google, but what a scare. Apple’s secrecy keeps them from properly testing out their apps with tons of users, the way other companies do who aren’t so worried about secrecy. Other people are reporting the same thing. Do not buy Mobile Me. Do not install it. Be warned. Update: Walt Mossberg, ...

John Schappert is the corporate vice president who runs pieces of Microsoft’s game business such as its Xbox Live online gaming service. One of the new front men for Microsoft’s game efforts, Schappert is a seasoned game developer who started Tiburon Entertainment, which Electronic Arts bought in 1998. Last week we showed a video of the Mojave Experiment to a small group of folks here on campus. Today we are excited to share the results with the public. For those new to the Mojave Experiment, it's a focus group effort we initiated a few weeks ago. We interviewed and polled 120 participants in San Francisco, in hopes of better understanding everyday users' perceptions of Windows Vista and seeing whether there really is a ...

Daryl sent me fascinating article last week about how our brains are re-wiring because of how we're using them. Some paraphrased excerpts: The addictive nature of web browsing can leave you with an attention span of nine seconds - the same as a goldfish. Our attention span gets affected by the way we do things...we can get into a habit of not concentrating. Twitter reduces our thoughts to just 140 characters. 12seconds.tv does it in ...

Brad Brooks talked at the Worldwide Partner Conference about drawing a line in the sand and maybe this is what he was referring to. I was fascinated by a post from Ian Fried at CNET today on Mojave. Here it is in nutshell Microsoft last week traveled to San Francisco, rounding up Windows XP users who had negative impressions of ...

Chairman Gruber recently discovered (via his sharp-eyed reader, Earl Misquitta), that the aforementioned iPhone Remote application can also be used as a virtual keyboard for entering search text, login information, and what have you on your AppleTV. Seeing the typed characters appear on the TV screen as you type them is simply magical. So, if, like me, you’re in the amazingly tiny sliver of the Venn diagram for people who own both these products, this ...

I've been thinking alot about parenting lately. Maybe it is because we have four kids at home, ages 7, 11, 13 and 15. Yeah, our quiver is full. I think everyone would admit that there is a point in a teen's life when the influence of his/her parents becomes less, and the influence of their friends becomes greater. I did an informal survey yesterday on Twitter, and again last night at dinner with some friends. ...

Well I’d never really thought of it as malware but that’s what one comment on my blog said about Apple sneaking MobileMe on to Windows via the iTunes 7.7 update. Thor, the difference between Apple installing a MobileMe control panel and Symantec or nVidia doing it is they don't do it for software you don't actually have. The MobileMe ad gets installed in your Control Panel even if you have no possible interest in Mobile ...
