more thoughts on "the cloud" (9)
on gapingvoid: "cartoons drawn on the back of business cards" (139) permalinkAbout a year ago, I was at a geek breakfast in London with Steve Clayton and some other folk, including a few people from Microsoft. Steve and some other geeks were talking about "The Cloud". At the time Steve was making the transition from working in the UK Partner Division, to working in the "Software & Services" division of Microsoft, which is how the conversation came up. Right then and there I drew the cartoon ...Shared by [ebarrera] (4) Andy Yates (19) Brent the Closet Geek (108) dobata (788) Gauravonomics (158) John Pederson (22) Justin LL. gapingvoid: "cartoons drawn on the back of business cards": the cloud's best-kept secret (19)
on gapingvoid: "cartoons drawn on the back of business cards" (139) permalink[Click here to enlarge/download/print etc.] You hear a lot of talk about "The Cloud" nowadays. The premise is simple. In the future, we won't have or even need all our data or software programs on our own computers, they'll be somewhere floating around somewhere on somebody else's servers, accessible via the internet. A vast nebula of other people's data, hence the word, "Cloud" [See drawing above]. Big players in this game so far include some ...Shared by 1938 Media (28) Ade (60) Andy Yates (19) Anne McCrossan (29) atul (385) Chris Fizik (16) Dave Wallace (4) erojo (20) Gauravonomics (158) Hugh Garry (5) Martin English (26) Mike (19) pixites (29) schauba (63) Steve (23) Szilárd Szakács (1) TomBolini (97) Travis Swicegood (52) Warner (46)Contribute comment

The TV dividend (25)
on Seth's Blog (734) permalinkWhere did Wikipedia come from? All those hours, all that work. Where did the time and effort come from? Clay Shirky points out that it comes from the TV we're not watching. Take a look at Netroidcomics, courtesy of Bert. Sure, some of these folks were at work, goofing off, but the real influx of time and energy we're seeing online comes from TV. Three, four or even six hours a day not spent doing ...Shared by Al (2) Andy Yates (19) billspaced (80) Boris (41) Brian Megilligan (17) Bryan Person (35) Chuck Bartok (23) Dr. Ernie (96) Geir (0) George (13) gondocs (24) iAdramelk (21) Javed (379) Jeff (11) jfiorato (9) Jonathan (6) Jonathan Washburn (32) Josh Lawton (7) Liz (28) Martin (15) Matt (17) Matthew (4) olifante (13) robertogreco (64) Scott (59)

I don't think so - more like a different way to goof off ... time to get creative ...
