Improve Your Technical Slides (18)

daemon_controller: a library for robust daemon management « Phusion Corporate Blog (18)

Why Amazon’s EBS Should Worry Data Centers (24)
on GigaOM (3010) permalinkAmazon has announced Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS), a persistent storage offering that can be used in tandem with applications using the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). With this move, it is turning up the heat on everyone from storage area network vendors, server companies and of course data center operators. Don’t be surprised if the company starts attracting corporations using its suite of web services. How to Survive Multi-Continent Daily Scrums (2)
on Agile Software Development - Better ways of developing software (26) permalinkAs Scrum, XP and Agile mature, Teams and ScrumMasters are increasingly confronted with the problem of handling multiple distributed teams, telecommuters or nomadic team members who aren't able to just co-locate. For instance, a recent project for the Dutch Railways[1] involved 3 teams with a total of 15 developers and testers from Holland and India. This constellation presents many special challenges in addressing impediments, assuring communication and collaboration despite language and time zone differences, and ...Shared by BluesForPablo (53) John H (29)

How do you compare security across voting systems? (6)
on Freedom to Tinker (76) permalinkIt’s a curious problem: how do you compare two completely unrelated voting systems and say that one is more or less secure than the other? How can you meaningfully compare the security of paper ballots tabulated by optical scan systems with DRE systems (with or without VVPAT attachments)? There’s a clear disconnect on this issue. Agile Project Planning (9)
on agile software development (63) permalinkProjects are a necessary evil :-) But necessary they are. Some people really feel the need to understand precisely what the project will cost and exactly long it will take. If this is the basis for investment, of course that's a completely understandable feeling. For years, traditional waterfall projects have been sold on the false pretense that projects are predictable. Plannable. Of course the reality is, projects are highly unpredictable, and - sadly - that's why so ...Shared by Bijou (46) BluesForPablo (53) John H (29) Kurt (60) Lenny (76) Les (30) Martin Hall (51) Matt (53) Nathan (15)Contribute comment

Burn Your Burn-down Charts (3)
on Agile Software Development - Better ways of developing software (26) permalinkIn many articles on Scrum, the traditional burn-down chart is still depicted as the preferred method for displaying progress in a sprint or project. However, since the introduction of burn-down charts, several improvements have been suggested by leading authors and experts.
