INT. McCAIN CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS - NIGHT JOHN McCAIN (Gordon Jump) is pacing as his ADVISERS look on. In the background, several TVs are tuned to Barack Obama’s address to the Democratic Convention. McCAIN: My friends, I gotta tell you, tonight with that speech Obama set my ass on fire like his tongue was a Zuni rocket and my bunghole was the deck of the U.S.S. Forrestal. I’m in trouble here, my friends, and desperate times ...

John McCain is pig ignorant about national security;2. I just thought about John McCain's feet. Check please.

More rumors about the new Kindle are emerging, which we first wrote about on July 15. The first device will have a similar sized screen as the existing model but will have a much enhanced form factor. The second will be a large screen device aimed at students and will come later. Somewhere around a quarter of a million Kindles have been sold to date and Amazon is clearly pushing out the last of the ...

Oh! Apple should do that too, just license their OS to a bunch of competing hardware vendors. Wait a second...Maybe Amazon could just lower the prices and move to the same model as the console vendors - look at the hardware as less of a profit center (or possibly a loss leader until hardware prices decrease enough) - and sell a lot more units making it up in content sales.

Twitter breaks down barriers in the Classroom: As an experiment, Parry made Twitter a class assignment and got his students to engage in microblogging as homework. He observed how Twitter became the link that connected conversations inside and out of class. “Because the students had the shared classroom experience, when something came up outside of class that reminded them of material from class time, it often got twittered,” he notes. “This served as a reinforcement/connection ...

I've sent this to my teacher friends to see what they think. I like the idea--microblogging is so much easier, faster and barrier-free than regular blogging.

For those of you not closely following the drama between social network platform Ning and a popular widget provider called WidgetLaboratory, you can read the background here. On Friday Ning unceremoniously shut down their access to Ning, making all those widgets vanish. WidgetLaboratory cried foul, saying they’d done nothing wrong, that the ban was “completely without any notice,” and that “it would appear that [Ning] decided to elminate WidgetLaboratory for anti-competitive purposes alone.” Ning was ...

Now all I need is a shill... When reading about the Hillary4Evah loons who are descending upon Denver: Clinton issued a statement Saturday praising Obama's decision and calling Biden "an exceptionally strong, experienced leader and devoted public servant." Some of her supporters were less charitable. "It's a total diss to Sen. Clinton, in my opinion," said Diane Mantouvalos, co-founder of the Just Say No Deal Coalition. "It just speaks volumes about how Barack Obama doesn't ...

When some people think of Sen. Joe Biden, they'll think of the unconscious racism of his characterization of Sen. Obama as "clean and articulate." Others will think back to the borrowing without attribution of Neil Kinnock's campaign speech. Or, those inclined more positively, will recall his terrific zinger about Rudy Giuliani ("a noun, a verb and 9/11"). The more serious will have a view about whether partition is the right course for Iraq. For me, though, ...

Among those who want to ban laptops because of a dislike of stenographic notetaking, any proposal always includes some mechanism to enable students to obtain mostly-stenographic notes. Eugene Volokh's new policy provides that one volunteer student in each class will take notes that will be made available to the class. I am experimenting this semester with recording and providing audio files for each class (when i can get my MP3 player to work). Others make ...

Via Attackerman, if you believe The Wall Street Journal, the Bush administration is readying to agree to a timeline that would have American troops pulling out of Iraqi cities by next Summer and the country by 2011. If you believe The New York Times, they're doing nothing of the kind. But the confusion just underscores how narrow the reality of our strategy in Iraq is becoming: A sharp withdrawal within the next three-to-four years in ...
