AppleInsider has posted details about a patent recently filed by Apple that describes technology for playing iTunes content from a desktop computer remotely on an iPhone or iPod touch. The new software would load only meta data about songs, videos, and other media onto a handheld device. It would then allow users to stream this media from their desktop computers on demand and even let them organize their iTunes libraries remotely (by adding, deleting, and ...

As part of the ongoing integration of its DoubleClick acquisition (yesterday it sold off Performics), Google will be placing an additional DoubleClick cookie on the browsers of everyone who visits a site that is part of Google’s current AdSense network. This will allow Google to serve up display ads from DoubleClick across that network of sites. It will also allow it to introduce some basic improvements such as frequency capping (letting advertisers limit how many ...

You can do a lot with new software if you tell it a little bit about yourself - but who wants to give the new kid on the block the password to their most important communication tools? Unfortunately that's what we're asked to do with a lot of new applications these days. It doesn't have to be that way, though. Standards based user authentication protocols, and one called OAuth in particular, allow applications to send ...

Bert was happy to eat the leftover rice from the rice cooker, but he didn't want to grab something that someone else on the team needed. So he said, "I call last dibs." Dibs, of course, is a priority, your chance to get ahead of someone else in line. Megan pointed out that last dibs was sort of an oxymoron, so she coined the term 'dregs.' Calling "dregs" is actually a great marketing strategy. It ...
