Labor Day recently passed. That means you may have received a shared photo album from a friend or relative. You know the type: It’s usually dozens (or hundreds) of shots of vacation fun. But you’re not into it. Now, it’s not that you don’t care; It’s fun to peek in and see what happened. But who wants to sort through a glut of 200 photos of someone else’s vacation (or baby photos or whatever)? What ...

Thank you Matt, for making me feel a lot better about my photography. I'll be doing good if I can get one good photo out of thirty-six.

...if you get one good shot on a roll of 36, you were doing good. That’s the ratio: 36:1. When you edit ruthlessly like that, you come out with great results. People think you’re better than you are. It’s not that you became a brilliant photographer, it’s just that you started exercising taste and restraint

Digital Photography Review notes this morning that Canon has posted teasers hinting at an upcoming Canon camera that, based on its outline, is likely to be a midrange or pro digital SLR. Given that the EOS 5D is the oldest in the company's digital SLR lineup, the teasers may be showcasing a replacement for the three year old model.

Digital camera technology has evolved so fast that it makes pretty much anyone feel like an old-timer. Listening to me talk about how I photographed President Clinton with a camera that captured half-megapixel images sounds like listening to an old guy talking about his phonograph, but that was less than a decade ago. So four years is a very long time for Canon to have maintained a wide lead in high-megapixel 35mm dSLRs, but they've ...

By Bob Lutz GM Vice Chairman Here’s something that arrived in my e-mail inbox recently from an old friend. I thought I’d pass it along to the FastLane crowd, because I know you’ll find it as interesting as I did. The Big Three has taken a lot of heat in recent years over falling sales in the domestic auto industry. But, as this little quiz reminds us, there’s plenty that the U.S. automakers in general ...

Filed under: Video, Internet ToolsA while back we noted that Amazon was planning to bring its video on demand service to the Mac. Well, it looks like they've finally flipped the switch because the service is now live. Much like iTunes, they're selling TV shows as well as offering movies for purchase and rent. Unlike iTunes, it's a streaming rather than a download service. Fortunately, they've got a number of free videos which will give ...

Here’s a quick video of the still camera remotes at the Beijing Olympics. I didn’t have time to shoot, blog AND edit video during the games - so I didn’t get a chance to look through and cut this video until now. It shows close to 100 remote cameras - ALL - focused on the finish line of the men’s 100M Final - THE - marquee event of any summer Olympic games (with the exception ...

I made a Friendfeed post a while ago about this, and then I realized that microblogging is sucking whatever ideas I have for blog posts right out of my head and turning them into one-sentence blips in the social-networking ether… Anyhow. The iPhone interface is intuitive. However, this does not mean that it’s practical, especially when you have numerous icons to keep track of. Wouldn’t it be nice if there were an interface for organizing ...

Filed under: Odds and ends, iPhone This Business Week article describes the rising demand for first generation iPhones. "Shelf prices" (using eBay values of virtual shelves) for the 16GB iPhone are currently at about $600, and $500 for 8GB models. In other words, the $250 AT&T refurb specials from March are now worth roughly double what you paid for them. From easy-unlocking to contract-free usage to eco-consumerism, consumers are looking for those original units and ...

Ironically, half of the people now reading this post never heard of me until that commercial ...

Each of these photos records a different moment, or a different perspective, but one thing they all have in common is that in each case, the person behind the camera wanted to share their experience with ...
