Earlier this year we wrote about Ndeur, a Canadian company that offers high-end customized shoes, and now a new partnership with customization portal Zazzle is bringing similar capabilities to the iconic world of Keds. Keds Studio, which just launched a few weeks ago, lets consumers design their own custom Keds Champions classic canvas sneakers by picking colours and adding graphics, photos and text. Users of the Zazzle-powered application begin by selecting the style they want—slip-on ...

As a blogger you probably know how important it is to write clearly and correctly right? Well, understanding the basic grammar rules is in turn essential for that purpose. Now if you don’t remember what are conjunctions, prepositions, verb moods and the like, don’t worry! Over at Daily Writing Tips we compiled a nice summary titled English Grammar 101: All You Need to Know. Here is a list of what you will find over there: ...

Image by Ryan Opaz via Flickr It has been a little quiet around here, and that isn't JUST because it took me a while to recover from twittering about wine until 2 am on Friday.Firstly, I've been working on some thoughts on monetisation for wine bloggers which are being posted on the European Wine Bloggers Conference site (part 1 is live now, the next parts go up over the next day or two) as are ...

At our June conference in Boston, CEO and founder of Legal OnRamp Paul Lippe started his presentation with a little pop quiz. Without stealing too much of his thunder, I thought I’d post one of the more interesting questions from his deck: “Name a comprehensive information resource, written by random people and commentators all over the world (the #1 contributor was condemned as insane), that is only distributed online?” Click through to find out the ...

Content is surely king, but if no one gets to see your content, it will just get lost on the immense sea of bits and bytes that we call the World Wide Web, right? Email is the most popular method for online communications, and it can contribute immensely to your promotional efforts. The image above only serves as illustration. Email someone with such a large and spammy font and he will trash it immediately… The ...

As the Democrats and Republicans gather at their national conventions, it is time to really think about a comprehensive national technology policy for the Internet Age. Many laws and policies governing the Internet and digital property are inadequate attempts to transplant rules from a different era. The problems that arise are not just about Net Neutrality (see Comcast) or copyright infringement or digital privacy. They are about all of these things. What we need is ...

Charming in its naivety. Have they not noticed that the real world bill of rights has minimally protected us from the intrusions of the state when it relates to our person let alone our belongings.. while it's nice to point out where the state and your possessions collide it's really a symptom that more paperwork wont solve.

This is the age-old question. Is it necessary to create new laws as new technology evolves, or can we still apply old laws to the new technology? Thus far we've been okay adapting the old laws - how long will that last?

Wishful thinking, but there is such a huge gap between digital and physical rights (especially fair use).

Ok, so here goes again, though this time it might be a bit worse! Remember two years ago when we were having fun sticking import stickers on all of the bottles we were sending to the US? Well for the 2006 I avoided that by creating a back label especially for our importer Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant. Great plan, huh? Yes, except for the fact that I labelled too many bottles with our European back ...

The brother and sister team made time to rest and relax on Oregon's Manzanita Coast. Rumor has it that they will be partying up and down the Coast for the rest of the Summer. Good times for all!

At both venues I gave a talk about social media (the term that has been hijacked by Web2.0) and why the wine industry needs to pay attention. My bottom line points are simple. I’ve written about and preached on the “Wine Life Value Chain” where I talk about how the strength of ...

Nice, ethical, and well executed. As a marketing professional for a decade and a half I’ll ...

How do you reward loyal readers? Of course, you link to their blogs, too. Or perhaps you can come up with a list of top commenters every month or so. How about loyal “linkers”? While linking blogs are usually automatically rewarded with pingbacks or trackbacks, it can also pay to regularly feature the top linkers. I recently learned this from Money Crashers, which usually posts the top referrers per month. Most analytics software like Google ...

I’ve met a lot of great people in covering food and wine over the years, but there are few, if any, whom I like and respect more than Jim Reininger. But Jim built up and maintained what I considered the best wine list in town. Not the biggest or ...
