I posted my current backup strategy a while ago. And after a quick chat with Rodrigo on Twitter I decided to post my image workflow as well. The basic flow is simple: 1. Out there Snap images in RAW using my trusted Canon ESO 400D. I’m still very impressed with this camera. It has survived more than I could expect. Now snapping away at its image number 26 654. It has survived drops from 1,5 ...

We've seem our share of good packaging ideas and bad packaging ideas, but this new method from HP is a great packaging idea. Their Pavilion dv692 systems available at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club will sit on the shelf in their own recycled material messenger bags, stabilized and protected with internal air bubbles. This alternative to huge boxes shoved full of styrofoam has reduced HP's individual consumer packaging by an outrageous 97%. And since three of ...

Since everyone is talking about the speed and features of Google's new Chrome browser, I've decided to review the icon. With all of the great logo designs Google has created over the years, I am disappointed that they came up with a logo that looks so much like Windows Media Player. Google, how could you. This alone, is reason enough to stick with Firefox. :-)

Toluu, everyone’s favorite blog recommendation application, has released a powerful new feature: tagging. Tagging is a ubiquitous element of Web 2.0. As content creators and consumers add tags, everyone benefits. Things are easy to find, and there’s fun in clicking those tags - you never know what you’ll discover. I’m also a fan of the idea that tagging illuminates someone’s interests. Know someone’s tags, know their interests. A look to the right side of this ...

Jack Schofield picks up on Paul Thurrot's question about whether there anything original in Google Chrome?: "All of the features here are present in existing browsers, all of them. So what does Google really bring to the table?"The problem with questions like this is that they fundamentally misunderstand what makes software good or bad. The same question is often posed by people looking at Mac and Windows, with much the same conclusions: look at a ...

Several days ago, Michael Arrington at TechCrunch wrote an effusive article about the importance of The new Google Chrome browser. Specifically, Arrington made the claim that Chrome was the new Web operating system. Arrington was attacked by several people who not only disagreed with the notion, but attacked him for being an idiot because, in essence, an OS is something that has drivers and talks to hardware. The argument was that Arrington is not a ...

Every month I get an email from comScore giving me a list of the top 50 sites in the US market (I also get emails about lists of top sites in other markets). Occasionally there are interesting tid bits about trends that comScore has noticed over the past month, but for the most part things rarely change these days — Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft are almost always at the top (in that order), with the ...

Today Google unveiled Chrome, an open-source web browser built for web apps. The release begs the question: What happened to its relationship with Mozilla, its Mountain View, Calif.-based neighbor and formerly close collaborator on Firefox, the open-source upstart trying (and to some extent succeeding) to take a piece out of Internet Explorer? In addition to providing the majority of the non-profit Mozilla’s revenue through a deal to be the default search engine for the Firefox ...

A few people have been annoyed by feedly patching itself too often. We discussed this issue at our Friday team meeting and decided to make a few changes: change #1) we reduced the size of the patch from the initial 500K to 250K. change #2) patching will be limited to one patch per week during the beta process (and one patch per month once feedly is out of the beta process). change #3) once we ...

How can I be more curious? As I pondered these questions I thought of the images that I see ...

As screen shots start to surface of Google’s Chrome browser prior to Tuesday’s official launch, one thing is very clear: Google Chrome doesn’t have a dedicated search box. Rising from relative obscurity, Firefox popularized a dedicated browser search box to the point that Microsoft followed with Internet Explorer and it’s near on impossible today to find a desktop browser without the feature. Google has long been the beneficiary of a dedicated search box via a ...

This certainly won’t be the most interesting product launch of the day for Google, but it’s worth noting anyway. Think training vides, HR videos, etc. (anything that isn’t outside facing). The product is included in Google Apps Premier Edition for free, with 3 GB of storage per user account. This is a “Zero billion dollar market ...
