This is good: Microsoft Corp. and the state of Washington this week filed lawsuits against a slew of "scareware" purveyors, scam artists who use fake security alerts to frighten consumers into paying for worthless computer security software. The case filed by the Washington attorney general's office names Texas-based Branch Software and its owner James Reed McCreary IV, alleging that McCreary's company caused targeted PCs to pop up misleading security alerts about security threats on the ...

It's hard to believe we've been living in the Space Age for over fifty years. I remember watching the first Space Shuttle launch at school in 1981, and feeling a rush because even though I was young, I knew something really neat and new was happening, but by that time going to space wasn't new. I was born after the last moon landing, and can only imagine what it felt like to watch Neil Armstrong ...

Running a website can be complicated—so we've provided Google Webmaster Tools to help webmasters to recognize potential issues before they become real problems. Some of the issues that you can spot there are relatively small (such as having duplicate titles and descriptions), other issues can be bigger (such as your website not being reachable). SpaceX’s Falcon 1 spacecraft made history tonight as the first privately developed launch vehicle to reach earth orbit from the ground. “About nine and a half minutes after launch, the second stage engine shuts down, and the Falcon 1 becomes the first privately developed liquid fuel rocket to orbit the Earth,” the company said. This was their fourth attempt. The previous three attempts failed to reach orbit - the last launch, in August, lost two ...

Looming price hike means it’s time to renew your domain names. Over the past few days I’ve renewed thousands of dollars worth of domain names. The price of renewing most domain names will shoot up on October 1 as many of the registries increase prices. That includes VeriSign (NASDAQ: VRSN), which runs .com and .net. Registrars will pass these price hikes to customers. Last time before prices increased I renewed domains a couple months out. ...
