Golfing the Extraction of IP Addresses from ifconfig (5)

good coders code, great reuse (23) permalink
A friend of mine recently showed me his version of extracting ip address(es) from ifconfig. The ifconfig tool on Linux is used to list IP addresses and configure network interfaces. It is sometimes necessary to capture your IP in a variable, like when writing some firewall rules. I decided to show off and golf the extraction of IP address with four commonly used tools — Awk, sed, a version of Perl everyone has, and the ...Contribute comment -

This post comes from my observation of a large number of emails on Barcamp and other mailing lists on ‘choosing the right host’ for start up web infrastructure. There is also a general impression that substantial investments are required to serve applications on production infrastructure. There is also an impression that start ups start out from having a ‘big single box’ architecture. All of which are wrong ways to go about getting your popular application ...Shared by CannonGod (190) Jasdeep (1)Contribute comment -

How To Launch Software (85)

Raw Thought (from Aaron Swartz) (10) permalink
37signals recommends that software developers pursue what they call the Hollywood Launch. They don't give any argument for this method, except perhaps the title (as if Hollywood was a business you should try to imitate?) -- I guess the idea is that you're supposed to do it since 37signals says to. The basic idea behind the Hollywood Launch is simple: you release a few hints about your product to build buzz, slowly revealing more and ...Shared by 2ni (8) andreas (0) Andrew Cohen (2) Andrew Whitehouse (3) arty (16) Arul N S (9) Bijou (13) Bradley (14) Bryon Thomas (7) C.K. James K. Galbraith's The Predator State is undoubtedly one of the most important books on the economics of our era. It is a book that desperately need to be listened to. And, even better than all that, it's a fun read.
