Twenty Healthy Foods that Cost $1 or Less [Grocery Shopping] (59)
on Lifehacker (11708) permalinkGrocery shopping hasn't been getting any cheaper lately, and the rising costs of fresh food in particular might lead some frugal buyers to be tempted by processed foods and supposedly "cheap" snacks. Google Employees Even Get Japanese Space Toilets (83)

- Dan said: I've used one of these at Google. I just *had* to try the rear cleaning wand. Lucky thing there's a Stop button, that thing was a bit too powerful.
- Dustin Diaz said: This is far from news, but apparently it is now since it showed up on Tech Crunch. I've never been too fond of these toilets because it heats up the seat, therefore creating an unfresh welcoming when you sit down. It always gives me the feeling that some other guy was sitting on the pot for a half an hour, and now it's my turn to warm the seat. From what I've gathered, however, is that these seats seem to be more popular with Women at Google. Having a warm bum I suppose is comforting.
- Eater said: Be sure to turn the water pressure down *before* using.

Why don’t condos in Oakland sell? (1)

Children in the mail! After parcel post service was introduced... (24)
on kottke.org (1393) permalinkChildren in the mail! After parcel post service was introduced in 1913, at least two children were sent by the service. With stamps attached to their clothing, the children rode with railway and city carriers to their destination. The Postmaster General quickly issued a regulation forbidding the sending of children in the mail after hearing of those examples.
