There was a lot of chatter yesterday about Google’s new web browser, called “Chrome” and its potential impact on the workings of the Web. Almost equally loud was some of the chatter amongst Mac users osut there about how Chrome is only shipping for installation on Windows right now. Google Chrome for Mac, Right Now As we’ve noted in the past, like with Photosynth for the Mac and Worldwide Telescope for the Mac, these apps ...

I just read a frightening article in the latest Business Week (an excerpt from an upcoming book, The Numerati, by Stephen Baker). It seems to be the antithesis of everything I've been working on with the Creating WE Institute regarding workforce engagement and innovation.Apparently, IBM is spearheading a movement to "automate" management, with the idea of measuring every move employees make in

Last week, I received a message from Guy: "I LOVE Google Calendar! But... I wish I could set a reminder for a month in advance, instead of a measly 2 weeks. That is the only thing holding Calendar back from being truly awesome!"Thankfully for Guy, Google Calendar's event reminders are even more customizable: now you can choose any period of time between 5 minutes and 4 weeks. This works not only for the default notifications ...

Have you ever been stumped in finding the right words to search for? Back when I was planning my wedding, I had a list of wedding songs in mind, but the problem was that I couldn't remember any of the artist names or song titles. So I started typing into the Google search box parts of the lyrics that I did remember -- and like magic, I saw suggestions with the artist name and song ...

This feature is amazing! I've used it for a while and I'm psyched to see it move to the main page. That will make it easier to combine with the still-Labs feature of keyboard shortcuts.

I like Google Suggest, but I am not sure I would want to see it every time I visit the Google homepage. If I need a search query auto-completed, I typically use the Google toolbar. Hopefully, Google will provide a way to disable the suggestions for those who prefer not to see them.

This should be manifestly obvious (and that's probably why I couldn't find any documentation for it). But then again, you'd think they would put it in, for instance, Gmail's IMAP setup help page, but it's not...I am sure we all have heard about Push in Apple's Mail by now. For those folks who use email to the point of obsession (I'm afraid I do), this is a great way to keep your mailboxes up-to-the-second current ...

You can now upload videos larger than 100 MB to YouTube without installing a dedicated software. YouTube started to use Gears to upload videos. The latest version of Gears introduces some new features that make manipulating large files so much easier. Gears now makes uploading large and multiple files on the web much easier, giving you the primitives to roll a resumable uploader, which means hopefully we can see custom desktop uploaders go away soon.

This week or next, your kids will be heading back to school. If your house is anything like mine, that means terror, trauma, and chaos – and that’s the good stuff! The first few weeks of school are probably going to throw you some curve-balls, too: your child gets bullied, the bus schedule is rearranged at the last minute (we lost a 6th grader for two hours the year before last when they changed the ...
