Three days before the Canadian elections, the party leader of the New Democrats has spoken out in favor of BitTorrent sites, calling them “fundamental to democracy.” At the same time, isoHunt, the largest Canadian BitTorrent site advises its users not to vote for the Conservatives, considering their stance on copyright issues. Jack Layton, leader of the Canadian New Democrats is a proponent of net-neutrality, and he believes that social networking sites, YouTube and torrent sites ...

Youtuber Applemilk1988 (Emily) first rose to relative internet fame when her video “Pretty Intense Japanese Lesson” was featured on the front page months ago. Despite being young, Emily has shown a lot of aptitude for Japanese. The next step is unclear, but I found out recently that Emily has actually become a gravure model in Japan. I’m currently trying to secure an interview so we can find out how this rare happening came about. Here’s ...

So you think you know pop culture (or more exactly, YouTube pop culture). Quick, what’s the most popular fan-made music video on YouTube? It’s Canon Rock, a rendition of Pachebel’s classical music played by Jeong-Hyun Lim (better known as his online handle funtwo). The video clip has been viewed nearly 50 million times. So what happened to Jeong-Hyun? David Farrier of TV3 in New Zealand went in search of funtwo, and found him not in ...

I didn’t know that there was such a thing as the Ig Nobel Prize. Apparently it’s a parody of the Nobel Prizes, and it has been going on since 1991. This year a group of Japanese researchers won the cognitive science prize for their research on amoeboid organisms. Toshiyuki Nakagaki, Ryo Kobayashi, and Atsushi Tero discovered that when put in a maze, amoeba can figure out the shortest distance from beginning to end. What makes ...

There’s a notice on the door of the home saying a foreclosure hearing is pending, the newspaper said. She ...

This is the coolest idea I have seen regarding Dragonball in awhile. Dragonball Perfect Edition was just released in Japan, and to help celebrate, popular manga artists drew Dragonball scenes in their style. If you are lucky to have a the DVD box set, you will find a very special surprise in the form of a booklet with all of these drawings. Some of the manga-ka included are Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto), Tite Kubo (Bleach), Eiichiro ...

Nicely done. He also highlights two sources for fact checking, http://factcheck.org/ and http://www.politifact.com/ that I've been using as well and includes videos of Obama's talk at Google. (Where Obama asserted, "I'm conservative in the sense that I want us to get back to those values that were essential to building America.") Best thing: I can stop working on a similar page I was drafting.
