Supervisors of Iowa's Hardin County have passed an ordinance [see below] requiring that any bicycle ride of 10 or more people carry at least $1 million of liability insurance. This is discrimination against bicyclists, plain and simple. Any group of cyclists that takes its chances and rolls through the county without the insurance can be fined $750. Says the Iowa Bicycle Coalition: "The ordinance will end bicycle rides by scouting groups, church groups, and even ...

Not thrilled at the announcement that Google Suggest will soon be baked into your search box by default? Worry not! You can disable the autosuggesting search to return your Google search box to its old, non-backseat driver self. Just head to the Google Preferences page, find the Query Suggestions section at the bottom of the page, and select Do not provide query suggestions in the search box. Now thank Google Operating System and return to ...

Last week I learned of Brady Clark and Mykle Hansen’s invention, the Speed-Vest. The idea is that the cyclist’s speed is displayed on their back, which in turn shows motorists that bicycles aren’t slowing down traffic all that much. The speed vest got me thinking, “What other messages could this be used for?” ShareThis
