As I mentioned last week I've started learning more about developing for the Apple iPhone. This week I'll be sharing my experiences during a 5-day course on iPhone programming presented by Big Nerd Ranch. In particular, I'll be pointing out differences between Android and iPhone development. [Read:...Shared by Brent (0) Larry Osterman (0)Contribute comment -
Converting from Prototype to jQuery [del.icio.us] (3)
on
Brent Sordyl's Blog (0) permalink
During the conversion process I found it to be most helpful to load jQuery side by side with Prototype using jQuery’s no-conflict functionality. As I slowly combed through my JavaScript removing Prototype dependencies I would periodically remove Prototype to see if and where I missed any outliers. This also requires you to use the jQuery() syntax as opposed to the traditional $() syntax. In doing so this helps easily identify where Prototype code remains.Contribute comment -

Post from: Royal HeHe2-ness! A blog that advocates Linux and Open Source. Howto: Fresh Ubuntu Install Without Losing Your Current Settings A clean install or an upgrade? That’s a question that keeps tossed around every new Ubuntu release. Common wisdom would suggest that a clean install would probably be better, however the inconvenience of losing current installed apps and configuration makes most of us shy away from this path. MLS Tired of Zillow, Trulia: Goes Direct To Consumers (24)

The largest Multiple Listing Service system, MRIS, covers real estate listings from 60,000 professionals in the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. (Maryland, Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and parts of West Virginia and Pennsylvania). Like their sister MLS organizations, they hate services like Zillow, Redfin and Trulia which give everday consumers access to real estate information. But they don’t hate it so much that they won’t compete. MRIS is launching a beta version of a service ...Shared by AJ Batac (9) Anand Sharma (5) Andrei M. - Tometheus said: Yet another feature I wanted, but developed in such a way as to make it almost unusable for me. I just want a button to translate an individual article on the spot, not an entire feed! I have friends (I'm looking at you M) who like to share cryptic articles in other languages. I /can/ set the translate option on their entire shared feed but only sometimes... it seems to be very sensitive to conditions I do not know. Sometimes I can select the translate menu item and sometimes I can't. Plus it has to reload the entire feed when you check the translate item, so if you're looking at an old unread item, suddenly it's marked read and lost in the depths of time with no way to find it since the title is now /translated/ so there's no way to recognize it! ARGH! Just a button and a pop-up window.. would that have been so hard hard?

When you view the feed in Reader, check off "Translate into my language" in the feed settings, and (voila!) the feed will be immediately translated for you."
