Lively launched just last July. The death notice on the site says it will shut down on December 31, so we are adding Lively to the deadpool. Lively just never took off, and was extremely far afield for Google. A post on the Google Blog explains the decision: ...

It was a great concept, I still think the browser based embeddable virtual world is the way to go...but the user experience has to be there and of course data portability between virtual worlds wouldn't hurt either.

Maybe Google didn't kill Lively so much as mercifully pull the plug. This is a good sign actually that Google is willing to weed out non-performing products. What else is being cut at Google?

Oui, Google coupe parfois ses services. Ici, Lively qui n'est actif que depuis environ 5 mois ... RIP

Not surprising because it wasn't a great product, surprising because it should have been.

I never even tried the service out because the idea was totally uninteresting to me. And now, it appears that Google’s heart wasn’t in it enough to see it through.

The new Google Mobile App for iPhone makes it possible for you to do a Google web search using only your voice. Just hold the phone to your ear, wait for the beep, and say what you're looking for. That's it. Just talk. Once the App is on, you don't have to push any buttons to search. Check out the video below to watch engineer Mike LeBeau explain how this works. After you speak your query, ...

When I moved to California, my going-away gift from my ever-hands-on coworkers at the design research firm, Lextant, was a metal lunchbox filled with inkjet-printed and hand-written magnets — a personalized magnetic poetry kit. Ever since, I’ve been looking for an opportunity to introduce those printable magnetic sheets to interaction design. Problem That opportunity finally arose when I found myself endlessly fidgeting with Creative Suite trying to mock up an Aurora-like mobile device interface comprised ...

Shutter speeds? Yaaawn. ISO speeds? Oh-god-not-again. Megapixels? Oh puh-bloody-lease, that’s so 2003. The newest frontier of digital photography is dynamic range - and it’s arguably the most exciting (r)evolution that’s happened in dSLR-world so far. Interestingly, most manufacturers are continually improving the dynamic range of their cameras, but somehow seem to forget to tell us about it - which means that we’re witnessing - or should I say not witnessing - a quiet revolution. It ...

Emily Hancock, a professional Hampshire Photographer recently submitted the following tutorial to our forum on Capturing Motion in Photography. Image by T.MoE Photographs, by definition, capture and immortalize a small slice of life. There is little for the viewer to infer what happens before or after that moment. However, there are images that need to communicate motion. For example, you may want to capture a dog running, a train barreling down the tracks, or trees ...
