This past June, I wrote a post titled How Many of Us Find Our True Talent? It was a look at whether people tend to land in professions that fit their “highest and best” talents: My own theory is that each of have talents that are uniquely strong in us. For some, these talents would put them on the world stage. For most of us, they’d probably vault us to the top of a particular ...

Just as I finished editing my Inbound Marketing piece I quickly scanned Google Reader and realized that David Meerman Scott and I were writing about one and the same thing. Except his post title is: Downsized? Fired? Here are the new rules of finding a job. Yes, the parallels are striking.; If you find yourself on the job market, you have a a tough sell in today’s economy, when US unemployment rolls surged to the ...

"There’s only one problem: this is not a quick fix. You can’t build up social media presence overnight. But the best time to do it is not when you are already out of a job, but when you don’t really feel the direct need. Do it for fun, as a way of self-expression – you may just find you enjoy it. Social Media participation is Inbound Marketing, and that’s a lifetime perpetual habit. It might just get you on potential employers “wanted list” whether you need them or not."

Officials at Boston College have made what may be a momentous decision: they've stopped doling out new email accounts to incoming students. The officials realized that the students already had established digital identities by the time they entered college, so the new email addresses were just not being utilized. The college will offer forwarding services instead. Sponsor Starting next year, freshman enrolled at Boston College won't be given an actual email account complete with login ...

An interesting development . . . though colleges really need to start collection cell phone #s for SMS (which is how most college students really communicate anyway).

This makes sense... 18 year olds entering college already have e-mail, and some have a significant online identity already; why burden them with yet another inbox?

BC's IT department has it together. Makes a lot of sense to just set up college email addresses as a forwarding service.

I think it's a good move. I hated that when I was in college, I always had to log in and check my school mail (their POP was so unreliable, but then again, this was the 90s/early 2000s) when I'd rather be using my main account.

I think it's kind of irresponsible for colleges to give students only temporary accounts, then change the email address entirely to an @alum.whatever address afterwards. Make it stationary forever, or don't do it at all. I *never* used my IU account. Ever. Or at purdue. I had them forward.
-
Cory said:
Whether it's being done to save money or the fact most students already have an email address, I think it's a fantastic idea. As far as the question of what happens if they change their email address, I don't think it's any different than if they change their mailing address or phone number.

Tai, gerbiamieji, yra sensacija! Nors neabejoju, kad metų bėgyje taip padarys visi pagrindiniai informacijos internete šaltiniai, vis dėlto Lietuvoje tai įvyko pirmą kartą, o ir pasaulyje vienintelė man žinoma išimtis iš taisyklės dalintis tik varganomis straipsnių ištraukomis yra anksčiau aprašytas britų The Guardian. Anything that can be a video will be a video During the Web 2.0 Summit recently, the Mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom, pointed out that one of the reasons the world is no longer the same is YouTube. This isn't as crazy as it sounds, and it's not just kids doing it. In the past couple of days, I've had three different adults tell me that they researched 3 different things on YouTube: quitting smoking, tattoo removal, and yoga. That's stuff I would have googled. All 3 people are what I would call "mainstream" computer users, too.

Interesting idea - search engines have a sort of default assumption that the media to be returned in a document of some kind. Youtube is a foray into other sorts of results. What will the ones after that be? One can imagine various convergences; applications; locations inside social networks.Even more interesting is that the company at the center of most of these possible futures is Google.

he mentioned that his son accesses the web through YouTube. At first, I didn't get it and thought Ian was making a joke. But then I realized he was not. Whenever his son needed any information, he would open up YouTube, type in the search term and then just watch the videos that showed up as matches. He never Googled anything; he never went to any other site; his entire web experience was confined to YouTube videos.
