Filed under: Deals, iPhone, App Store There are lots of iPhone app discounts to be had for the remaining 3 hours of the day (that's ET -- different developers may trigger the return to regular pricing at different times, although I believe 'official App Store time' is PT), but two in particular caught my eye as excellent temp-free apps, and probably worth their regular prices as well. Hidden TV out features discovered in iPhone 2.2 SDK (16)

Engadget (496) permalink
So, get a load of this. While tinkering within the iPhone 2.2 SDK, ArsTechnica discovered a neat little tidbit that could lead to some pretty extensible applications. In essence, the MPTVOutWindow class enables your iPhone to beam out video to a connected TV rather than the built-in screen. Of course, dock-connecting iPods / iPhones have been sending out videos for ages now, but this could actually enable applications to be used on the big screen. ...Shared by Aaron (2) arturopelayo (22) Dan (5) Eric Carlson (7) FreeAtNet (0) Ghosthead (54) Harper (14) jamie (0) Jeff Douglass (50) Jonathan Greene (3) Kamath ॐ (26) Kurt Vermeersch (1) Marsh Gardiner (22) mjc (12) Troy Forster (1) vicarum (3)Contribute comment -
Is Twitter journalism? (10)

What you see on Twitter, when: 1. People witness events that others are interested in; and 2. They're posting about it on Twitter; and 3. The interested people are reading their posts... It certainly is news. Whether it's journalism or not isn't a very interesting discussion, to me. To the user, both extremes, Twitter and the most vetted pro news, require skepticism. The reader triangulates. What The Banned iPhone Ad Should Really Look Like (14)

Barence writes "To demonstrate just how misleading the latest (and now banned) iPhone television ad really is, PC Pro has recreated it using an iPhone 3G and a Wi-Fi connection — with laughable results. Apple was forced to pull the advert today after the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) decided it exaggerated the speed of mobile browsing. Amazon To Shut Down Alexa Web Search (99)

TechCrunch (720) permalink
Amazon is using the Thanksgiving break to quietly release some bad news - they’re shutting down one of its web services - Alexa Web Search. The service, which we first covered way back in 2006, is already closed to new customers, and existing users have until January 26, 2009 to move on to something else. Amazon says in an email to developers that the reason for the closing is low usage, and I believe them. ...Shared by 8thlight (11) a77ila (68) adam (152) Adhavan (5) Adi wong (0) Al Sutton (0) Alain Edouard (6) Alberto (24) Alex Dumitru (42) Allen Sentance (23) Allen Sentance (26) AmyVernon (196) Andrew Schott (10) Andy Beal (19) Anna MacDougall (53) Argonath (31) arjo (0) Avi (124) Benedict Lee Zhi En (23) Brad Nadler (9) Bradley (1) Brandon (0) Brian (39) Chandu Thota (0) Chris (0) Clickfire (37) Dan (20) DanielElsaesser (14) Danilo (2) Deborah Petersen (185) DermDoc (Jeff) (35) Dominik Lukeš (6) epaulin (12) flip (10) Gagah (4) guy (59) handir (24) Ibrahim Cesar (8) issa (5) J.D.
