To achieve successful R&D and real innovation (bringing new things successfully to markets) is easy on paper but very hard in practice. Thousands of enterprises are struggling with this using a variety of methods, methodologies, instruments and organizations. Typical problems include how to ensure proper technology transfer, how (de)centralized should R&D and innovation be, how to initiate and foster new business, what is the right balance between short (improving existing business), medium and long term ...

Filed under: CellphonesHey, hackers! Now that we've got the attention of millions upon millions of incredibly talented individuals, here's your next challenge. India's Airtel -- which is offering Apple's iPhone 3G at a near-stratospheric price -- has claimed that "even the most deadly hackers on the planet won't be able to crack the codes that support the iPhone's Airtel applications with rival company SIMs." Just so you know, it appears that Airtel worked with Apple ...

Nokia’s latest Ovi offering has been given the official nod and is now available to all. Files on Ovi lets you easily grab files from your home PC while you’re on the hoof, pulling them down to your Nok so you’ll never be stuck for a file again. The really clever bit it that with the online storage option, your computer doesn’t even need to be on for it to work.

A few months ago we announced that we were testing a new product called Knol. Knols are authoritative articles about specific topics, written by people who know about those subjects. Today, we're making Knol available to everyone. The web contains vast amounts of information, but not everything worth knowing is on the web. An enormous amount of information resides in people's heads: millions of people know useful things and billions more could benefit from that knowledge. ...

I'm an unabashed Google apologist, but sometimes their blog posts hurt me a little. E.g.: "We are happy to announce an agreement with the New Yorker magazine which allows any author to add one cartoon per knol from the New Yorker's extensive cartoon repository. Cartoons are an effective (and fun) way to make your point, even on the most serious topics."

I like the concept of authorship. It's primary competitor will be books and personal/organizational websites. Why would one host that on Knol. Monetization. Well lets see if anyone publishes their book via Knol (each chapter = 1 Know article) and how much money that makes :-)Anyone?

Squint at the grainy snaps and you can just about make out its touchy feely form, for a better look we’ll just have to wait until the movie opens over here on Friday.

We've received a lot of feedback ever since we announced that we're changing how users authorize applications. Since we offered more details last week, we've made additional changes to make this even simpler and better for both users and developers, by allowing access to basic user information while maintaining user choice and control. These changes will be available later today (Monday) in the sandbox. Users have always been able to interact with your application's canvas ...
