Reasonable people may differ as to when exactly the bloom came off the rose for Barack Obama. Of course, hopes fulfilled inevitably bring anti-climax, so it's possible that much of the general public is now predisposed to find fault even where none exists. But surely few of his supporters, and I count myself among them, will deny that there has been much to deplore about Mr. Obama's post-Election conduct. For some, the most dispiriting event ...

The Campaign Finance Institute (CFI) study disclosing that Barack Obama actually raised most of his campaign money from "larger" not "small" donors has gained wide, approving, coverage in recent days, from USA Today to the New York Times and Los Angeles Times and countless web sites, even making Huffington Post at least twice, including as a top link. Inevitably the headlines refer to the "myth" of Obama riding a wave of small donations to victory. ...

One of the more interesting recent questions in the iPhone geek circle: Is Google's (GOOG) neat, newish voice-powered iPhone search feature quietly breaking Apple's (AAPL) App Store rules? Yes. iPhone programmers figured out quickly that Google was using "private" code in its iPhone app, which is officially against Apple's rules. Meanwhile, CNet scribe Tom Krazit thought to pick up the phone and see what Google had to say. He writes: "A Google spokesman confirmed Tuesday ...

Yesterday's release of Twilight made certain that your weekend will be filled with the sound of screaming tweeny fangirl hordes, an auditory experience that the movie's lead actor Robert Pattinson described as "terrifying ... like the sound you hear at the gates of hell." It would be easy to hate these creepy, utterly mediocre books and the phenomenon they've spawned — but I think you'll find it's even easier just to throw your head back ...

There's been a serious dearth of Hello Kitty-branded products these days, but the dry-spell is thankfully at an end, with the arrival of the Hello Kitty C1. The crazy cat's apparently first-ever netbook is (as you can see in the photo) quite a looker, and it's packing a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU with 1GB DDR2 SDRAM, a 945 GSE Express chipset and a 120GB hard drive. The 10.1-inch netbook's also got two USB ports, ...

So the British people are going to get a President after all. He will "speak for the nation and to the nation". He will rule over us with his "knowledge and contacts and unique ability." How do we know? Because Charles Windsor has just announced - via his biographer, Jonathan Dimbleby - that he is seizing the role for himself, without an election. Explicitly citing the Presidencies of Ireland and Germany, Dimbleby says Charles intends ...

eHarmony does not hate gay people. It is merely ignorant of them. That is the dating site's excuse for excluding same-sex customers — a practice that led a gay New Jersey man, Eric McKinley, to file a complaint with New Jersey's attorney general which eHarmony has just settled, paying a $50,000 fine to the state and $5,000 to McKinley. eHarmony was founded in 2000 by Neil Clark Warren, an evangelical Christian and a psychologist; he ...

Buying an Apple computer? Get ready to throw away your monitor, over and over again. New Apple hardware is shipping with "HDCP" anti-copying technology that prevents showing some video on "non-compliant" monitors. Best part: the list of "compliant" monitors will change over time: the monitor you buy today can be "revoked" tomorrow and stop working. Slashdot says that Apple's added "copyright protection" to its video. But copyright law isn't violated when you watch a movie ...
