There’s a really interesting discussion going on in the comment section of Bryan’s post - The More You Post, The Better You Rank. Technorati released a report that found the top blogs post multiple times a day. Bryan asked if readers prefer blogs with multiple posts or a single daily posts The reaction has been mixed. Some prefer multiple posts, some prefer one meaty post. There’s an important parallel here with newsletters. If you’re going ...

The economy still weighs heavily on everyone’s mind, and we’re seeing drastic changes in traffic patterns. Hopefully, with changes in the U.S. political climate, things will turn around a bit. Over the last few weeks, I’ve also been watching many self-proclaimed marketing gurus speak of social media’s role in filling in the gap during the economic downturn. While social media should be a part of any forward-thinking and transparent company, I would urge caution if ...

In the past I made an online marketing mindmap that was fairly well received, and I am nearly caught up with work stuff, so I figured it was time to start playing with flowcharts. This flowchart describes the basic SEO process. Perhaps a bit is lost in simplification, but I think this does a great job of conveying a lot of information in a limited space...a future version might expand the box about building quality ...

I’ve been speaking to news organisations’ community editors on the lessons they’ve learned from their time in the job. In the 2nd of the series, the Guardian’s Mark Fothergill: 1. Getting the tools right for the job are ultra-important, both front end and back end: Too many sites knock together something that ‘will do’ and it always comes back to haunt. An oft-made mistake is spending lots of time on front end, user-facing functionality and ...

As of today, “Tribes: We need you to lead us” by Seth Godin is available. What’s remarkable is that Seth marks the occasion by putting his money where his mouth is. His leadership inspired many to work together and produce something remarkable. Several months ago he posted a single invitation to join a new tribe on Ning. Together — this tribe formed by choice — collaborated, contributed and produced a companion eBook also available today. ...

If you’re doing something with technology and you’re not leaving comments on Techcrunch, using Seesmic, you’re an idiot. An idiot! Gary Vaynerchuk is a vlogger with a good story. He transformed an ordinary New Jersey-based wine store into a world famous online media company (that still sells wines). As you can imagine, Vaynerchuk is recognized as an expert on personal branding. Hence the invites for conferences like Web 2.0 Expo New York and Blogworld Expo. ...

You can grab an RSS feed of any search you do, so your rss reader will be always updated with what's going on with the buzz on things you care about. As advertising continues to plunge into the abyss after stumbling over the edge of the cliff earlier this year, sales managers in Fleet Street are figuring out how they can incentivise their teams into selling more online after years of neglecting the web for the easy margins in print. This OTE mentality has never managed to make it as far as the shores of editorial because we’ve always found it so difficult to quantify success ...

Back in June I distributed an online survey to find out how journalists with blogs felt their work had been affected by the technology. 200 blogging journalists responded in total, from 30 different countries. The responses paint an interesting picture: in generating ideas and leads, in gathering information, in news production and post-publication, and most of all in the relationship with the audience, the networked, iterative and conversational nature of the blog format is changing ...
