Hunter S. Thompson Comes Alive on Gonzo Tapes | The Underwire from Wired.com (7)

The Underwire (2) permalink
From his early military career to his invention of gonzo journalism and rebellious suicide, Hunter S. Thompson lived an iconoclastic life. He obsessively documented his adventures, recording rants and thoughts on cassettes and reel-to-reels, and collecting everything from notes on napkins to angry letters to his editors. The Gonzo Tapes, a five-CD box set released last month by Shout Factory with the blessing of Thompson's widow, offers revealing peeks into the writer's mad, brilliant brain. ...Contribute comment - GameBoy in a graphing calculator - Boing Boing Gadgets (1)

Leo Lewis of the Times has declared that Japanese bookstores believe next month’s release of a manga version of Das Kapital will be the “publishing phenomenon of the year:” The comic, which goes on sale early next month, plays into a growing fascination among Japan’s hard-working labour force with socialist literature and joins a collection of increasingly fierce literary critiques of the global capitalist system. In recent decades, while Japan Inc was still delivering collective ...Contribute comment -
