To WebKit or not to WebKit within your iPhone app? (12)

I know HTML. Its on my CV. Expert level. I also know CSS and a whole bunch of JavaScript. I can even do TDD with JavaScript. And on the iPhone there is this nifty object called UIWebView. Another increment of finer typographic control for the Web: an apparently effective, server-side plug-in for WordPress that enables elegant and automatic hyphenation of words. “The end result is text that can be justified without ghastly word spacing.” Supposedly works with left-aligned blocks of text, too. It’s a step forward, but it may not be the full step forward some might hope for. Unfortunately, I don’t use WordPress so I won’t have the opportunity to put ...Shared by Alec M Resnick (575) Brad Dillon (11) Bramus! Anyone involved in Mac software development is familiar with arguments over whether a particular app is “Mac-like”. In the early days of the Mac — the first decade or so — the entire Mac community was largely in agreement about just what this meant. To be un-Mac-like was to be ignorant of the fundamental concepts and norms of the Mac OS. It was something you could spot in an instant — software designed by engineers ...Shared by 狮子真好吃啊 (124) Alex (12) Alex Graveley (18) AlexK (26) Andy (17) Andy Coffey (38) Bence Nagy (67) Brian Lauer (66) Chris M (53) Dedalus (102) Dedric "That One" Lam (318) Dr. Ernie (257) Harry Brignull (38) Hi-iD (16) Jay (21) Jeroen (24) Jonathan Sterling (94) Jonathon Juvenal (47) Josh Clark (18) kleinman (19) louisgray (523) Manuela Hoffmann (43) Marc (12) marc (11) Mark (45) Marko Horvat (25) Martin Ström (19) Mary Nolan (14) Matt Brubeck (5) Matthew Bischoff (30) Michael (312) MV (109) Pierce Hickey (37) rey (73) Ryan (20) Tim (6) William Couch (125) Xavi (26) zSAPping (44)Contribute comment -

Elegant Web Typography - Jeff Croft (86)

A whopper of a deck from the amazing Jeff Croft. This is an excellent — really, I mean excellent — primer on how to achieve superior typography in a medium that does almost everything it can to make such a thing painfully difficult. A few weeks ago we released a version of the Flickr site tailored specifically for the iPhone. Developing this site was very different from any other project I’ve worked on; there seems to be a new set of frontend rules for developing high-end mobile sites.
