Yesterday, I asked the question “Who do you follow on Twitter?” This all started because @chrissieb was looking for recommendations – from @corvida, who is definitely the Twiter maven. (She’s actually the queen of all social media, but you knew that already). Well, I made it on @corvida’s list, so I responded to both of them. One thing led to another and next thing you know, I was blogging it. Anyway, her tweet reminded me ...

Guest Post By Rob Diana of Regular Geek (Twitter/FriendFeed)Well, the microblogging API space sure got interesting in a hurry.First, on Thursday, Louis Gray reported that Twitter was throttling unauthenticated API requests. This obviously would effect several applications in a very bad way. Later in the day, Dave Winer let everyone know that Identi.ca has implemented the Twitter API. And on Friday, in a surprising move, TechCrunch announced that Twitter is sending the XMPP firehose to ...

By popular demand, I've been asked by other FriendFeed users to highlight how I use the popular social lifestreaming site. So far the series has covered the "Hide" function, the bookmarklet, advanced search, how to integrate with Google Talk, how you can incorporate comments and determine an item's original source. Today, figuring out who you're engaging with on the service. So far, unlike most social networks out there, FriendFeed doesn't utilize a person's profile as the ...

Data publishers and data consumers can be both friends and enemies, when it comes to the seemingly infinite demand for and growth of real-time data from Web services. Services like Digg, Flickr, Del.icio.us and Twitter are happy to see their user bases expand, and to see developer communities be built around their products. But with each new application hitting their API, and each new user, comes new demand that can put strain on their infrastructure, ...

One of the key features of FriendFeed I love is the focus on sharing great content, no matter where it comes from. Where as Twitter was a great networking tool for meeting new people, FriendFeed has become a networking tool for content, and its system of liking content highlights the best of it. It may not be the perfect level playing field, but it far more egalitarian in its distribution of content then say Techmeme, ...

- We frequently get questions in the adCenter Community about our plans for a publisher program. We started a private pilot program earlier this year and are now inviting more publishers. Microsoft’s self-serve advertising offering for publishers is still under development and is currently in a private pilot phase, being tested by select publishers who met the participation requirements. The private pilot phase began earlier this year. A private, phased approach allows us to learn ...

The criteria for staying active in social media can be defined and interpreted in many different ways. This leads me to the foundation first, contribution. The frequency at which we contribute, dictates the level of our activity and inactivity in social media.Measuring an individuals level of activeness can be based on the mechanisms we use for participation: Communication: Blogs Micro blogging Presence applications Message boards Social networking sites Collaboration: Wikis: Wikipedia Social bookmarking Social News ...

Chrissie Brodigan (@chrissieb) was looking for recommendations about who to follow on Twitter. It’s sort of a hard thing to say because determining who’s “best” is so subjective. If you’re a web designer, you’ll want to follow other designers; if you’re a tech geek, you’ll want to follow other tech geeks; etc. etc. There are so many micro-communities on Twitter, a definitive “best of” list is difficult. I started to do this, but I’ll admit ...

Guest Post By Colin Walker (Blog/FriendFeed)On Wednesday, Matthew Ingram posted a reaction to Mike Arrington's interview with Twitter founder Evan Williams with regards to the way Twitter is just handing their data to potential competitors for nothing. It has seemed obvious to me for a while that an ideal aspect of a business plan for a social networking service such as Twitter would be to charge partners for premium access to the API, but once you ...

In April, before Microsoft's ultimatum for Yahoo to accept its bid came to pass, Legg Mason threw its support behind Yahoo. Now the investor group is continuing its support of Yahoo and plans to vote for the current board at the upcoming August 1 shareholders meeting. However, Legg Mason did advise Yahoo and Carl Icahn to bury the hatchet by the time of the meeting. Icahn has submitted a proxy board to replace the current ...

The topic has been kicking around the SEO forums for over a week. Google's organic search results have been changing. Not once or twice but many times over the past 2 weeks. Not little changes ... Some are BIG changes. Websites and blogs that have enjoyed number 1 or 2 positions for years are seeing their positions challenged (and a few are getting a little loud ?!). I remember once seeing a classified ad on ...
