The minister of Labor and the fearless leader of the Greens, Tarja Cronberg, took part in a press conference on security policy in Helsinki on Tuesday.Quite predictably she thinks that the war in Georgia has no bearing on Finland's security situation, there are no reasons to join NATO or to raise defense spending, etc.She also demanded that the status on the Russian minority should be secured in the Baltic countries and in Finland, and suggested ...

Thanks to Asheesh I am now a happy user of Tiny Tiny RSS. It has fully replaced my use of Google Reader. I feel a little bit cleaner/freer now. But don’t ask about my use of Google’s IMAP and Jabber servers. They are on the long term TODO list. Anyways, what is Tiny Tiny RSS? It is a web-based Feed Reader, a la Google Reader. However, it is Open Source (GPL) and you (or a ...

Although it's impossible to tell without another object in the display box, that's Panasonic's 150-inch TV up there -- here at IFA, intimidating its neighbors. Now get this: this massive plasma sporting a 2,160 X 4,096-pixel (4 times 1080p) Advanced HD display will hit the assembly lines just as soon as Panny's newest factory comes on-line in the May 2009 timeframe. At the moment, the single 150-inch sheet of glass is hand-made and fitted into ...

By Daniel Aioanei, Dublin Engineering TeamI'm pleased to announce the initial release of the Open Source project Uzaygezen, a Java library specialised in multi-dimensional indexing based on Hilbert curves. For those who may be wondering about the origins of the project's name, a fellow engineer in Dublin suggested this word from his native Turkish, as Uzaygezen means "space wanderer." The library supports mapping from a multi-dimensional space into one dimension via the Compact Hilbert Index. ...

Wow. This new theme by CSDesigns just made my week and it's only Monday morning. At $9.99 the "Classic Video Game Theme" (hrmm... Mario theme?!) is definitely expensive as far as Premium BlackBerry themes go, but after installing it and decking out my Curve with free Mario ringtones I'd argue the total experience is well worth it. It's Old School Cool and then some. Here's the official word on the theme: Classic video game enthusiasts ...

Heureka! Kieltämättä, koneen takaosasta tuli paljon ...

Piss-poor scandal-sheet The Daily Mail has a hilariously breathless account of a giant stainless steel Klingon fighting-knife received by police during a knife-amnesty; to hear them tell of it hooded thugs are roaming the streets with Klingon duelling swords looking for little old ladies to terrorise. A spokesman for police in Gloucester, where it was surrendered, said: "It is a particularly nasty weapon that can, literally, take someone's head off. We are very glad it ...

Whahhaha!! The next thing we need now, is someone to actually go out and murder someone using a betleH. Think of the headlines! For a cool overview of other Klingon weapons: http://www.klingonimperialweaponsguild.org/pages/kristak.htmYou can buy replicas of ALL of these, btw. The one features in this new article is a pretty bad replica, btw.

This made me snort. An extremely dangerous weapon in the hands of someone trained to use it. Thankfully Klingons aren't real. And it is a horrible design for a weapon. It just looks scary but it is damn near just a sharp shield. The Star Trek folks worked very hard to make it look menacing, but it is just silly. I know it is based on a combination of martial warts weapons, but there is a reason the knife and its longer cousin the sword are so common. They work. This thing... just damn.

For those not familiar with the product, Boxee is a media sharing platform targeted at the television, and will be available across multiple platforms (Mac/ Linux/ Windows). The focus of the product is the user interface, both visually and ease of use, and without doubt they’ve mastered both. I’m looking forward to getting into ...
