Respect the Code (9)
on Geekdad (106) permalinkFrom the intersection of “unbelievable” and “Easter Egg” comes news that Google Reader contains what is, perhaps, the ultimate inside joke for geeks and gamers. As revealed by Blogoscope, if you enter the primordial Konami Code (sans “Start”) via your keyboard - Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A – your unread items will be reset to 30 and this lovable ninja will creep into your Subscriptions sidebar. 7 Tips for Amateur Type Designers (47)
on Seth's Blog (1252) permalinkYou, a type designer? Of course you are. You are if you make presentations in PowerPoint or Keynote, or if you have a resume, or create signs or brochures or ebooks or even a blog. And sadly, it seems that the bar is low and most people have trouble reaching it! So, at the risk of the one-eyed giving driving directions, here are seven tips. Convenience Beats Quality (10)
on A VC (302) permalinkI've been writing about this theme for about as long as I've been blogging. I regularly opt for a 128kps stream on the Internet over a vinyl record played on our high end audio system (because I can search for the music I want to hear and play it instantly). I lost my Canon SD850 recently and chose not to replace it. I use the camera in my blackberry 90% of the time anyway (because ...Shared by Abhilash (3) Adam W. Saving small (9)
on Signal vs. Noise (1022) permalinkMy favorite quarterly magazine is American Bungalow. It’s small, niche, and expensive, but it’s worth every penny for articles like the one in the summer 2008 edition titled “Brining Back Stinesville.” Nancy Hiller wrote this amazing piece on the town of Stinesville, IN and the preservation group Bloomington Restorations, Inc. In the 1990’s Stinesville’s population had dropped to around 200. The buildings were deteriorating, commerce was lacking. BRI is the patron saint of the dying ...Shared by Adam W. An alternative, rotary traff... (1)
on NorthTemple.com (16) permalinkAn alternative, rotary traffic signal designed by Charles Marshall in 1936 & used from the 1940s through 1970s in Australia. 2 rotors pointing at colored sections denote whether traffic in either direction should proceed, prepare, or stop. Based on a traditional clock face, it has the advantage of clearly showing signal phase timing. It’s downfall was apparently the ability to cope with changing traffic loads.
