Following the footsteps of Google's personalized homepage, Gmail added themes. Once the new option is enabled in your account (as usually, Gmail's new features are slowly rolled out), you'll find a tab named "Themes" in the settings page and you'll be able to choose from 30 themes. "We wanted to go beyond simple color customization, so out of the 30 odd themes we're launching today, there's a shiny theme with chrome styling, another one that ...

Recently MacLife magazine reviewed Apple’s MobileMe service. My problem with the review is that it lists something as a negative that continues to spread misinformation: Doesn’t “push” your email instantly, rather every 15 minutes. This is wrong. In this article I’ll touch on what gets synced with MobileMe, when it occurs, and why I’m happy with it. First, keep in mind the following about MobileMe: Many think MMe is just email, contacts, and calendars, but ...

I’ve been taking a closer look at my Google Reader feeds lately, and, as always, I’m trying to stem the tide so the signal can rise above the noise. I’ve done a little spring cleaning, which for me doesn’t mean unsubscribing – I’m always hesitant to do that – but instead, I’ve been re-categorizing. Is that feed really a “Can’t Miss” read? Shouldn’t that blogger be on my B-List? Doesn’t this feed belong in my ...

could be solved somewhat if GReader wouldn't show duplicates. A lot of people share stuff from blogs I'm already subscribed to, and/or stuff that someone else I follow has already shared. A filter to see only *unique* shared content would be awesome.

i rely on the shared feeds, to get the best filtered news... headlines make a huge difference... I am j,j,j,j,j thru some peoples though. Comments make a difference as to "Why I should read them?" Also, if I comment on Scobles shared item, why can't gReader see if someone else commented and join them all together?? ..

Guilty as charged. I am cutting down. Yesterday I purged my subscriptions. After looking at the Trends section in Google Reader I dumped feeds that had too many updates in a day (>15). Too much noise. I have a pretty lean list now. It is long but most do not update that frequently. I am also sharing less publicly and just starring things I like myself more selectively.

I'm making, er, well, making *more* of an effort these days to "share" things where I think they belong. Whether that's Shared Reader Items, preferably with a note, or funneled over to Friendfeed as a standalone post there, or saved to Delicious if it's actually something I want to *bookmark* for reference... And this week, I've started blogging more, so I'm clicking through to original posts to blog those links more often, too.

In her blog post, she says: So I guess part of me does feel ...

You got one of those fancy new iPhone 3Gs and find you keep running out of juice? Apple's decision to keep the iPhone battery safely tucked away in the inaccessible innards of the phone keeps you looking for a power outlet toward the end of the day? This decision may not be popular but it's opened up the external battery market to those enterprising companies looking to make a buck to keep you all juiced ...

Windows only: Free application AeroSnap brings the new Windows 7 drag-and-snap-to-size feature to your pre-Windows 7 machine. With AeroSnap installed and running, pulling a window to the right edge of your screen resizes it to half of the screen on the right side; pulling it to the left resizes the window to your left half. Finally, pulling a window to the top of your monitor will maximize it. Handy! To get more Windows 7 features ...

You know all those movies, shows, and news features that make it seem like net-savvy freelancers work every day from their favorite coffee shop? They never show them struggling with just what's fair trade for the seat, the temperature control, and, of course, the free Wi-Fi. The Freakonomics blog notes that cafes lose money by charging or restricting laptop use, but should one small cup of Joe entitle one to a whole day of data? ...

Likely Parallels and VMware Fusion need no introduction for TAB readers, but you might not be aware of what the latest incarnations that both programs bring to the table. VMware Fusion 2, released in September, and Parallels Desktop 4.0, just released today, have a few new tricks up their sleeves. Setup Setting ...

We've had a discussion previously trying to nail down what makes a notebook a netbook with no resolution. We admit it doesn't really make that much difference but in our coverage we try to standardize on the terminology we use so you can follow what we cover over time. The overall impression we get is that netbooks are thought of as the smaller notebooks, traditionally with displays 10 inches or less. Dell is trying to ...

Written by Kevin Muldoon from System0 RSS syndication is one of the most common methods to read a blog therefore it is vital that your feed link can be easily found on your site. One of the best ways to do this add an RSS icon to your blogs header, sidebar or footer. The position underneath your blog posts is popular too. You can design your own RSS feed icon if you wish but thankfully, ...
