David Frost, former junior hockey coach and NHL agent with tentacles allegedly so deep into former NHL player Mike Danton that Danton tried to hire a hitman to kill Frost, could not be proven in an Ontario court to have used some or all of those tentacles in group sex with his junior team members and their girlfriends, ages 14-16. Apparently, the prosecutors could not get anyone but the girls (now in their late 20s) ...

Seth Godin wrote a good post last week on the New York Times, and six things they aren’t doing (or didn’t do), but should. I particularly like this idea: 5. Stringers: The Times has always used freelancers and stringers to report and contribute to the paper. But how many? Why doesn’t the paper have 10,000 stringers, each with a blog, each angling to be picked up by the central site? You wouldn’t have to pay ...

There's an odd but serious spat brewing between MVN blogger and Yahoo! Sports basketball writer Adrian Wojnarowski over an extremely disturbing post that has now extended beyond the web pages. Amir Panchmatia, of the "Cavalier Attitude" fan blog, posted an item in late October titled "Going American History X" on Adrian Wojarnowski" which began this way: I wish I could meet Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. You want to know what I'd do? I would bust ...

The vultures are circling. What was once a small trickle of layoffs at major newspapers has become a waterfall of lost jobs within the media business. One can almost picture the Poynter Institute's widely read journalism industry blog Romenesko sauntering up to Time Inc. and Conde Nast and screaming, "Bring out your dead!" But one advertising and blogging company is seeing opportunity in the storm of bad news, devising a method to "bail out" some ...

As we reported yesterday, Shaquille O’Neal is on Twitter, and it’s definitely the real Shaq. But two days ago as a few people started discovering The Big Aristotle’s account, not everyone was convinced. Bryant Blount (aka lord_b) was one of the doubters after first hearing about @THE_REAL_SHAQ on a sports website. The back and forth between the two ultimately lead to an unforgettable phone call for a sports fan, and perhaps proves once and for ...

We wish we could have embedded this one, which took place last weekend in Virginia, and doesn’t involve a potential winner, but rather a kid who … just watch it and wince. Brutal stuff.

OK, we have a little clarification about last Thursday’s behind-closed-doors American Press Institute Crisis Summit of 50 newspaper company CEOs.
