10 Books About Atheism You’ll Want for Christmas (1)

Friendly Atheist (10) permalink
Yeah, you don’t technically celebrate Christmas, but that won’t stop you from asking for presents or buying something for yourself. Here’s are some of my recommendations for atheist books you’ll want this holiday season. (And by that, I mean I want them this holiday season.) Some of them have been around for a while, some you probably haven’t heard of, and some won’t be published until next year (but you can pre-order them now). … ...Shared by terry (5)Contribute comment -

Joe M. has an answer to that question: Don’t bother playing the game. Also remember that the person that wishes you a “Happy Holiday” has no way of knowing if you are christian, jewish, muslim, or atheist and is honestly just wishing you well for the season. Take that as the kindness that it is. … Atheists: remember that this season does have religious meaning to a majority of folks. In the spirit of goodwill, ...Shared by terry (5)Contribute comment -
After the Week of Sex, How Could They Go Back? (1)

Friendly Atheist (10) permalink
I wonder how future church “challenges” will go over with the crowd now that the week of sex is over. Good luck getting the congregation to read the Bible now. … Attempting to draw a contrast with a recent Dallas church’s own 7-day challenge, [pastor Henry] Waldrip suggested that Christians ought to spend more time reading their Bibles. He then went on to challenge his congregation to “read their Bibles every day for a week.” ...Shared by terry (5)Contribute comment -

Water has always been a common focus of snake-oil health cons and belief systems. There is certainly something appealing and wholesome about fresh, pure water. It is easy to feel, on a gut level, that water can be more than just healthy and necessary - that it may contain magical healing properties. Our near reverence for pure water also makes sense from an evolutionary point of view - access to potable water has likely been ...Shared by terry (5)Contribute comment -

Ta-da List just moved to three exciting platforms: Rails 2.2, Phusion Passenger, Amazon EC2. This is an important milestone for 37signals.
