Nokia's Comes With Music service was rolled out extensively today in the UK (or whatever they call today over there) and the basic premise sounds promising: Pay a little extra for a phone, download all the music you like, and keep it, even when you switch plans. Of course, it's not as good as it seems. While the service is initially only available in the UK, Nokia promised the service would hit our shores soon. ...

Today's Wall Street Journal has a fascinating article about "macks," tins of mackerel that are commonly used for bartering in prison. Macks took over around 2004 when smoking bans in federal prison knocked out the previous currency: packs of cigarettes. From the WSJ: Unlike... more expensive delicacies, former prisoners say, the mack is a good stand-in for the greenback because each can (or pouch) costs about $1 and few -- other than weight-lifters craving protein ...

A man robbed an armored car outside a Monroe, Washington bank and used a dozen unwitting accomplices to act as decoys during his getaway. He hired the accomplices on Craigslist and instructed them to wear very specific clothing. From King5.com: "I came across the ad that was for a prevailing wage job for $28.50 an hour," said Mike, who saw a Craigslist ad last week looking for workers for a road maintenance project in Monroe. ...

Rolling Stone has compiled a nice list of myths about Sarah Palin. 1. THE MYTH: "She took the luxury jet that was acquired by her predecessor and sold it on eBay. And made a profit!" — John McCain, at a campaign stop in Wisconsin THE FACTS: No one bought the jet online. It was eventually sold through an aircraft broker — at a loss to taxpayers of nearly $600,000. 2. THE MYTH: "I told the ...

We think most would agree that right now isn't exactly the time to get into the speculative real estate market. But one Chicago woman, Joanne Smith, decided to buck the odds, buying a home sight unseen last week in Saginaw, Michigan with the plan to resell it (pictured right). In her defense, she bought the home on eBay for a steal -- $1.75. [Ed's Note - This reminds me of that episode of The Simpsons ...

For instance, iPod generates a reference to Image Proof of Deposit Document Processing System, and the 771 Barack Obama results centered around ...

This story came out in February, but I just heard about it on the news today. The Pacific Ocean ate my iphone some weeks ago -- coincidentally, right around the time the sweet new 3G model came out. No, seriously. When I went to the Apple store to buy a new one, there were very long lines. It seems that either the ocean ate everyone's 1st-gen iPhone, or people were excited about the new model. The lines were made slower by the fact that you had to register the phone and ...
