The Electronic Frontier Foundation's Fred von Lohmann sez, "The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat has a nice article about Carl Malamud's latest project: scanning and posting state and local laws, regulations and ordinances (including building codes, regulations, all the minutiae you're supposed to know) for all to copy and use. This will test those states and counties that claim copyright over the law and want to charge you for copies." Malamud is spoiling for a major legal ...

Three pieces that caution Democrats to not quickly dismiss the candidacy of Sarah Palin. 1. New Republic. "Sarah Palin is a living reminder that the ultimate source of political power in this country is not the Kennedy School or the Davos Summit or an Ariana Huffington salon; even now, power emanates from the electorate itself. More precisely, power in 2008 emanates from the working class electorates of Pennsylvania and Ohio." 2. George Lakoff. "Palin is ...

A fearless truth-seeker who isn't afraid to go where mainstream media is terrified to tread sneaks us this breaking (!) blogsclusive, a deeply troubling discovery at the highest levels of power. Many have noticed that famously short-tempered Vietnam war veteran John McCain, famously imprisoned and tortured in Hanoi, bears a more than passing resemblance to famously short-tempered Cylon war veteran Saul Tigh, famously imprisoned and tortured on New Caprica: Oh, but it doesn't stop there...

First one is good, and the topic is interesting as well. Foot notes is cool, but I'm not sure it would make a great presentation. It would be cool to have running before one though.

In the Home Appliances section of IFA 2008 in Berlin there are dozens of brands of coffee makers, most doling out freshly-brewed joe to bleary-eyed conventioneers. Interestingly enough, some of the companies are using cool interactive displays, much like Microsoft Surface, in an effort to catch our attention. A video on CrunchGear demonstrates one of the larger of such displays. A small pad on the bottom of the coffee cup contains an icon which a ...
