We have some very big news today at Pownce. We will be closing the service and Mike and I, along with the Pownce technology, have joined Six Apart, the company behind such great blogging software as Movable Type, TypePad and Vox. We’re bittersweet about shutting down the service but we believe we’ll come back with something much better in 2009. We love the Pownce community and we will miss you all. Here are three things that suck about being Canadian right now: Last week the CRTC sided with Bell against a group of small Internet Service Providers who want to offer their customers unthrottled connections where what they download is their own business and not subject to interference. In last week’s throne speech the Conservative government renewed their intention to “modernize” Canadian copyright law. Their effort to do so last session was Bill C-61, a woefully ...Shared by Bob Goyetche (0) Brent the Closet Geek (9) cgsheldon (15) Derek van Vliet (1) Gangles (2) J Irving (0) Jawad Shuaib (8) Jeff Hoard (0) Nicolas Roberge (2) Peety (2) Richard (3) Samden Joshua Stevens (0) Tris Hussey (0)- Gangles said: We kind of suck at this :( also Canadian mobile carriers are a racket

Now that's an Apple Pie! (195)

Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories (3) permalink
With a little help from a square springform pan, you too can have an Apple apple pie for dessert! We're certainly not the first to put an Apple logo on a pie, but we think this implementation raises the bar a bit. Unlike a regular pie, you need to start with the top piece since you need to use the pan as a cookie cutter before you line it with dough. Roll out your dough ...Shared by שאול א (3) ★ I approve this message! Honda is turning its 2009 Insight hybrid cars into acceleration nannies. This new Ecological Drive Assist System (EDAS) features a chameleon-like speedometer, turning blue if you're driving too rambunctiously. It's all in the name of saving the planet, encouraging drivers to ease off the throttle with an easily-seen color code. Push the Econ Mode button, and the helpful monitoring begins. The system also issues you an electronic report card, showing you how wasteful you've been ...Contribute comment -
Twitter kills Canadian SMS updates. Can the U.S. be far behind? (117)

As regular readers know, I hate SMS (text messaging). It’s not the idea or technology that I hate, it’s just the ridiculous costs associated with it. Why should I pay AT&T $15 a month for unlimited text messages (tiny amounts of data) when I already pay $30 a month for “unlimited” data? So in some ways I’m happy that more people’s hatred for the service will grow today with the news that Twitter is ending ...Shared by Adam Leclerc (0) Adam Singer (1) Ahsan Navid Hussain (10) AJ Batac (6) Alain Edouard (1) Alberto (22) Allen Sentance (13) Allen Sentance (16) Amit Chowdhry (38) Amy (21) Ananya Walia (8) Andrew David Blair (0) Andrew Procter (0) Andrew Schott (0) Angelo (0) Anna MacDougall (28) Anton (0) Barry Sanschagrin (0) Ben May (3) Benedict Lee Zhi En (8) Benjamin (79) Brandon (0) Brendon Walsh (0) Brian (16) Brian Edelen (2) Charles Nadeau (0) Chris (2) Chris Charabaruk (3) Chris Greenough (0) Christian (2) Dan (13) Dan (0) Dave Gilbert (1) Dave McCauley (0) David Hughes (1) Dawn (0) Dennis Gonzales (2) derek markham (84) Derek van Vliet (1) deusdiabolus (6) digits12 (0) dmah (0) Dom (1) Drew Olanoff (5) Ethan (0) fongmickey (0) guy (36) Hector Jarquin (6) Herman Cheung (0) Herman Cheung (0) illu (2) Indigo (1) Indy (7) J.D. Gay marriage: the database engineering perspective (18)

Delicious popular (28) permalink
There are various objections to expanding the conventional, up-tight, as-God-intended "one man, one woman" notion of marriage but by far the least plainly bigoted ones I am aware of are the bureaucratic ones. To be blunt, the systems aren't set up to handle it. The paper forms have a space for the husband's name and a space for the wife's name. Married people carefully enter their details in block capitals and post the forms off ...Shared by Benjamin (79) Christopher De Vries (0) Darren Barefoot (14) Derek van Vliet (1) Erik (0) Joe Clark (0) Jonathan (0) Josh (8) Lance (56) Nikki (3) oyiptong (0) rony john (14) Sean (0) selenamarie (1) Stefan Gehrig (3) Stubbs (0) xantha (0) zbrox (0)- selenamarie said: A very long exposition on Y2Gay from a database engineering perspective.

Lately I’ve been really getting into FriendFeed. Part of the reason that I like the site so much is that it provides a far superior experience to graze Flickr than Flickr itself. Don’t get me wrong, FriendFeed does not replace Flickr; rather, it enhances Flickr and provides functionality that Flickr itself does not. With that in mind, I put together a list of “The Top 10 Reasons Why FriendFeed is a Better Place to Browse ...- Dave said: huh, Thomas Hawk now writing for Black Star Rising
