NEW YORK (YouTube.com/AdAge) -- While advertising business categories like automotive are suffering catastrophic spending cutbacks, one sector enjoying gangbusters' growth is in-store marketing. Speaking at Ad Age's Media Maven Awards, Nielsen's Global Manager for In-Store George Wishart saw no slow-down in the coming year for the category. Quite the opposite, he cited Deloitte data indicating that retailers and manufacturers both intend to increase in-store ad spending by double digits, despite the recession. Flipping on a light switch usually doesn't require much in the way of cranial fortitude, but mount three or four of the things in a row and it's Concentration time whenever you try to flick the right one. Japanese graphic designer Mac Funamizu feels your shame, imagining a conceptual wall-mounted touchpad to end the confusion and inadvertent light shows. With his invention you'd simply drag your finger toward the light you want to turn on, ...

"After hearing Barack Obama's speech in Berlin, and noting the degree of excitement and hope that he generated throughout many countries besides the US, I started to see him as one of the first true "world leaders." This may be partly because of his extraordinary childhood and political life that has bridged many cultures. Obama's restraint and intelligence, exhibited as foes were bating him throughout the campaign, his heartful clarity coming through in his talks ...

I recently posted about Esther Gokhale's excellent book - 8 Steps to a pain free back. One of the commenters pointed to a similar book - Ageless Spine - by Kathleen Porter. This is another excellent book, which has a very similar argument to that of Esther's book. The idea is to regain a natural posture, with your spine properly supporting your body. In some ways it is a little more easy to read and understand ...

Thanks for the comments on the last post.Todd - Z Health - I bought the basic DVD and thought it was OK but a bit over priced. Cobb is another one who makes almost mystical pronouncements about joint mobility. Seems like a good guy in general though. I think there is probably enough free material out there on mobility as I pointed to in the last post. It is the peer reviewed research that I'm ...

I've been reading about joint mobility a fair bit recently and trying to practice some moves daily.I've either been doing Maxwell's Daily Dozen or Scott Sonnon's free book of Intu Flow moves. I'm finding some benefit I think. The theory as far as I can see is that moving your joints through all their range of motion bathes them in sinovial fluid - oils the hinge if you will. Stretching doesn't always help, but moving does.Mobility ...

Determining chronological is easy -- count forward from birth. But determining physiological age has remains subjective, based on how someone looks or functions. Researchers studying genes believe they can now detect your exact "physical age" by looking at a number of clues in your DNA. They believe that the tests will be the first time doctors can accurately predict someone's physiological age objectively, without resorting to asking them how they feel or looking at their ...

Good news folks! The new name of this blog is "White Spaces" White Space, in an organizational context, in my view, is the space outside the boxes in the organizational chart. The focus is on recognizing that we need not be 'boxed' in by our roles, but that we can be much more than that. Wikipedia also tells me of there are many meanings of White Space White space (visual arts), or negative space, the ...

While the Wiimote opened the door to motion-sensitive gaming, it's obvious limitations even have Nintendo pushing the tech forward with add-ons like the MotionPlus -- but a company called Sixense might have leapfrogged the field with a system called TrueMotion 3D. Rather than relying solely on an accelerometer, this controller uses a magnetic field to track both your hands' positions in 3D space. With a refresh rate of ten milliseconds and accuracy up to a ...

I’ve been on both ends of the phone — both looking for jobs and for employees. No matter which side of the conversation you’re on, though, the telephone interview leaves something to be desired. It takes time to do multiple interviews, it’s impossible to set a time that works well for both parties and — if you’re the interviewer — you’re mind rapidly goes numb from asking the same questions over and over again. There’s ...

Sure, the base price of Dell's Inspiron Mini 9 is pretty palatable, but good luck passing through that hard drive selection screen with this option unchecked. Yep, as now, Mini 9 buyers can opt for a capacious 32GB solid state drive (a luxury already available in Japan), which is a $100 upgrade over the standard 4GB SSD. Every day that goes by you either move closer towards achieving a goal or you move further away from that goal. If you take specific steps you can be assured that you are moving towards our goal. If you do nothing you are moving away from the goal. By being still, you lose momentum, and the level of inertia of our current position increases. Following these steps will guarantee that you will move towards your ...
