It's the anniversary of the Russian Revolution, marking the Marxist overthrow of the Russian government. Karl Marx once wrote that "religion is the opium of the people." Potch hits it right on the head with this one. It is one of my biggest fears that people's unrealistic expectations will eventually cause them to view Obama as a failure if he can't make it all better, like magic. And there are those in this country that would use it to push racism, blaming his "failure" on race, making it very hard for blacks to have the opportunity to ever hold that office again for a very long time. It would have been much better in the long run, if our first black president was elected during good times and not bad. It would be the same thing if he were a female, too. If you are going to be first, you have to be better than good, or there will be a long time till anyone will be allowed to be the 2nd. Unrealisitic expectations is the cause, but bias could end up being the ultimate outcome.

While social networking continues to remain popular and grow, advertisers looking to grab users attention are seeing low click-through rates according to a new survey from IDC.There are four major reasons why people use social networks: to connect and communicate; in response to peer-pressure; for entertainment; and for work-related purposes.read more

Duh! I have been tell you all this for 9 months. What social media does is create thousands of little links that Google does follow.Hence you get ranked well under tartget terms in Google and that converts to sales. Forget about monetizing your social friends. Get them to instead forward you social shared links, hence creating ever more links all over social media sites.

Some people are missing the important part about the social networks turning a profit so they can stay in business. While social networks are a good way to advertise your site for free, by sharing links with your friends & followers, your links won't have a place to be shared, if the site can't stay afloat. Knowing that people don't click ads on the network means they are going to have to find some other way to generate an income. This has nothing to do with you paying for placing ads on their network and everything to do with the business model of the social network itself. Now, if you can understand why people are there, then you can monetize it properly, with something useful to the users. If they are not on the social network to shop, then stop shoving ads at them in an attempt to get them to shop. That's like offering someone who is lactose intolerant a hunk of cheese.Remember why a great number of people continued to pay for AOL after they moved from dialup to broadband: To stay in touch with their friends and continue to participate in the members only social communities they were a part of...mostly chatrooms and exclusive private mailing lists. They paid for an ISP they didn't need, just to keep their friends. When AOL started giving the private lists a hard time, most reluctantly moved to Yahoo Groups and canceled their membership with AOL. That is why AOL is hurting today. They made their money on social activities and then broke up the social networks they depended on and drove them away. Now they think they can replace that lost income with more ads shoved in everyone's email. The increase in ads are driving more away. They need to find a way to go ad-free and make their money another way.

World of Mouth, the Holy Grail of Marketing Word of mouth marketing is one of the most desirable activities to brands, why? Because research on trust shows that consumers (folks like you and me) trust the opinions of people we know more than anyone else. It makes sense of course, think about the next time you’re going to buy a car, who’s opinion are you going to trust, those of your friends or the opinion ...

"As a result, the most powerful activity within Twitter is to watch the “Retweet” phenomeneon. A retweet is when one individual copies a tweet from someone in their network and shares it with their network. It’s perhaps the highest degree of content approval, it means that the content was so valuable and important that they were willing to share it with their network –causing it to spread from one community to the next –retweets are the core essence of the viral aspect of content spreading."

I agree about the retweet, helps build community but can be difficult on mobile devices at times.
