I know I just bragged about having something in the New York Times but I am seriously just as excited right now that something I wrote was mentioned in an ONTD story. As I said before, Joaquin Phoenix looks like Tony Clifton. Also, an incredible ONTD commenter accurately pointed out multiple similarities between the Phoenix clan and the Glass Family. Hope JP’s okay. Dâm Funk & Joaquin Phoenix, just a coupla dudes with cool names

Confession: Until a few days ago, I'd never calibrated my TV. There are a couple reasons for this. First, and most simply, I'm not down with buying a calibration disc that I will likely use once then never touch again. And second, to me, HDTV calibration is the gadget geek's equivalent to chasing the dragon. I've seen endless A/V forum posts of new TV owners begging and pleading for that one true setting for their ...

The beautiful weather made yesterday's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade the hot ticket: The NY Post reports 3.5 million people lined the streets to enjoy the balloons, floats, and performers, while the Daily News put the spectator figure at around 1 million. Many parade watchers were waiting since early morning (4 a.m., 5 a.m.), staking out good spots to watch the 9 a.m. parade. Reader zodak has some terrific photographs of parade action in the air ...

Online video is used to market books, why not the buildings that house them? In September, the New York Public Library - an institution whose origins date back to 1895 when the private libraries of John Jacob Astor and James Lenox consolidated with the Samuel Jones Tilden Trust - launched its very own YouTube channel with the intent to show off its collection of over 50 million items. In addition to Design by the Book ...

I've spent a lot of time reading about what went wrong in the financial markets in the past year. A lot of the best stuff has come in the form of letters and presentations from hedge fund managers who have been at the front lines in this crisis. Most of that stuff is highly confidential and not bloggable. But there is one chart that I keep thinking about that I wanted to share with you. ...

A quick look at the list of the 'top' blogs in the world will show you that almost all of them are written by teams of people. There isn't one in the top 10 that's personal. The best way to increase your ranking as a blogger is to post very often and to have teams of people doing the work. If that’s your strategy, of course you can’t have it be a solo blog. The ...

As usual, I received a nice metric load of music from Jesse @ Killbeat. One of the gems I listened to was The Great Outdoors ‘Fall’ EP. They’ve been putting out seasonal EP’s.. Spring, Summer, Fall, etc.. Fall is a little late, but hey. Not only do I have a penchant for sketched birds, anything birdlike – I also love banjo’s. So when I heard Under The Sun for the first time my heart melted ...
