iPhone only: Inventive iPhone app Direct Line navigates automated phone systems to get you directly to an operator without having to sift through menu options yourself. To use it, just launch the app, tell it who you want to call (it supports hundreds of searchable companies), and let it take care of the rest. The Dallas Cowboys are moving house — Texas style. When the team's new arena opens next year, it will be the largest, most tech-laden stadium in the NFL (and one of the biggest sports facilities of any kind on the planet). Its $1.1 billion price includes the most ginormous retractable roof ever built, massive end-zone doors, and the world's biggest hi-def LED screens. The designers, from the firm HKS, say they didn't set out to ...

Filed under: DiningThere's big trouble in France for the oyster market. Bloomberg reports that close to 80% of France's annual 130,000-ton oyster harvest have been killed off this summer due to a herpes-like virus. The virus affected the 12- to 18-month-old oysters that would be edible in 2010. Those due to be harvested this year and next year weren't harmed. Oyster growers are trying to replenish the stocks but the oyster business which generates $1.5 ...

As the college football season kicks off, teams are ready to vie for the two national championship trophies. But that’s not the only hardware that will change hands this season, since many intercollegiate rivalries have their own special trophies. Some are pretty standard silver cups or plaques, while others are a bit more esoteric. Here are a few of our favorites. 1. The Simplified Investor submits: The economic visions of the presidential candidates in 2008 are dramatically different, and the contrast is most striking when they discuss taxation. Barack Obama will steal from the pages of English folklore and take from the rich to give to the poor; well, actually, to the middle class, who will benefit from major tax cuts. John McCain sees things differently, and he will cut taxes across the board - most heavily ...

1. Fewer Males are Born Apparently, rough economic times causes a decrease in the birth of males. Research shows that in times of war and environmental disaster, the sex ratio, which is typically half boys and half girls, gets disrupted. Because of economic stress, women are more likely to go into labor prematurely. Further, since male fetuses are more likely to be miscarried than female, more male babies don’t survive the pregnancy and premature labor. ...

I think most cooks would assume that they know how to cook an egg: put it in boiling water for 10-15 minutes. To make the point, he switches on a small oven, sets the thermostat at 65°C, or 149°F, takes four eggs straight from the box, and unceremoniously places them inside. “I use an ...
