If you need more space to edit your documents in Google Docs or if you want to read a document, there's now a full-screen mode that hides the menus and the toolbar. Just select View > Full-screen mode or type Ctrl-Shift-F to go into full-screen mode. Unfortunately, the same shortcut is also used by the Web Developer extension to display element information, but you can change it in the options.Since you no longer have access ...

Wordpress 2.6 was released just a couple days ago. During the time I have covered Wordpress, I have always considered Wordpress more as blogging application and not really a full featured content management system. However, ever since I installed Wordpress 2.5 on one of my sites, I can't help but think that Wordpress now rocks as a CMS. If you haven't looked at Wordpress in the past year or so, I recommend that you do ...

Posted by Benjamin Grol, Product Manager Engineer, Google Contacts TeamWe've heard from some of you that Gmail's auto-added contacts can lead to too much address book clutter. One of the advantages of automatically creating contacts is that all of the addresses you email subsequently show up in auto-complete. We wanted to preserve this benefit while giving you the ability to have a clean, uncluttered contact list, and we've come up with a solution that's rolling ...

Great add on.. I like the fact that they keep all the contacts but it is nice that they will be broken out based on how many times I email them..

The UK is dominating America when it comes to Twitter usage. New analysis out by Hitwise this morning shows British use of Twitter was a full 70 percent higher than American use last week. UK visits to the site jumped a massive 631 percent over the past 12 months. The researchers note that their measurements are probably even on the low side, as they don’t include cell phone usage and other non-traditional site traffic. Another ...

The best screen capture software on the market is Camtasia Studio, there is no denying in that. It has a lot of advanced featured, both on the screen capturing and on the editing process. The problem is that the software is not cheap. The latest version costs $299. If you are going to produce videos from your screen frequently, it could be worth the investment. If you just want to record your desktop sessions once ...

Since we started down this road last year launching Connect to go with the IdeaFactory, one common ask has been blogs. Blogs are a cornerstone of Web 2.0, allowing anyone to publish content and anyone to participate. We discussed very early on whether we should provide a blogging platform, like multi-user WordPress or MoveableType, for internal people to use. Ultimately, we decided against this because: 1) there were already a few instances of blogging software ...

Matt just posted on the WordPress Development blog announcing that version 2.6 is available for download. The main novelties are the possibility to track changes in posts now (wiki style), the possibility to blog from around the web and the integration with Google Gears. Minor changes include: Word count! Never guess how many words are in your post anymore. Image captions, so you can add sweet captions like Political Ticker does under your images. Bulk ...

One Disqus-enabled website was the recipient of an automated message flooding attack this morning. While malicious, it’s a bit different from what commercial spam is. This attack put some stress on the Disqus service and a number of people may have had issues with accessing Disqus this morning. The entire incident, until all was completely smooth, lasted under 30 minutes. This was an isolated case and we’re implementing ways to address this moving forward. Thanks, ...

If you’re a Twitter user you likely saw the news this morning: Twitter bought Summize. The deal, covered on the business level by our parent blog GigaOm, brings Twitter some more smart engineers and a potential route to monetization. But what does it mean to the average web worker? Summize - rebranded this morning as Twitter Search - in case you haven’t looked at it, is an excellent search interface for Twitter, letting you easily ...

This is probably one of the most important things that Twitter has done in its young history. Search is not good at Twitter, but Summize is a pretty good Twitter search service. It also could be a lot more. And there are many, many more things Twitter could do. This is also the glimmerings of a business model for Twitter, in that the service needs attachment points of declared intent which may make sense for ...

There aren't many surprises in web technology given how well the media and the blogs cover the sector. And it's even more so with our portfolio company Twitter which seems to attract a lot of attention for a host of well known reasons. Last month Twitter announced a financing but it was old news by then. Today, Twitter announced that it has acquired the leading Twitter search engine Summize. That was also widely reported last ...

Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) is an easy and inexpensive Internet hard-drive from Amazon Web Services (AWS) with absolutely no limits. Now some people assume that Amazon S3 is a storage service meant primarily for web start-ups who store data in-the-cloud but that’s not correct because just about anyone (home users included) can benefit from S3. For instance, you may backup your large music collection or even your entire computer hard-drive on S3. Similarly, bloggers ...
