The Simpsons mocks (m)Apple (110)
on
Engadget (254) permalink

Ocean currents can power the world, say scientists (61)

Hacker News (175) permalink
A revolutionary device that can harness energy from slow-moving rivers and ocean currents could provide enough power for the entire world, scientists claim. Existing technologies require an average current of five or six knots to operate efficiently, while most of the earth's currents are slower than three knots (Photo: AP) The technology can generate electricity in water flowing at a rate of less than one knot - about one mile an hour - meaning it ...Shared by adam (72) Adhavan (5) Adi Gaskell (25) Adi wong (0) Alayna (1) Alpha Lim (0) Andy (1) AnthonyBaker (0) Arren V (40) Azeem (18) Babychen Mathew (12) ben (4) Brendon Wadey (27) Brian Borden (0) Caleb Kramer (0) Chris Stamas (1) dannykboyd (0) Dave (1) David Mathis (10) Erwin Tang Yew Hon (13) Evaristo (4) Gianni (1) Hasan Saleem (2) Ian Enos (12) James Osborn (0) Jay Keating (1) Jeff (0) Jeff (0) Jon Farley (0) Judy (2) Kabren Levinson (0) Karen (0) Karthik (2) Kevin Rose (1) Laura Lee Dooley (11) Mani Karthik (43) Marcus5s (56) Michael Zamboni Kogelman (0) Mike McCarron (0) Mr. BabyMan (31) Nate Whitehill (3) Nikollas Ordway (24) ojas (0) Paul Fischer (7) River Song (33) Rocky (3) rony john (14) rpy (1) Sander Epker (12) Scott (3) Sean (5) Sean Rasmussen (16) Steve Brennan (3) Suzanne Aldrich (0) Thomas Lopez Jr (1) tim (1) time (28) timedalkat (27) ToeCracker (2) Victor Barrera (96) willpate (2)Contribute comment -

A global rise in tobacco use in the next two decades will help heart disease remain one of humanity’s leading killers, while HIV/AIDS deaths will peak in 2012 before making a steady decline. This is according to an update of the World Health Organization’s “Burdens of Disease” report, which measures the current sources of human mortality and looks at how health and safety trends are changing worldwide. The result is that the WHO can tell ...Shared by Alayna (1) André R.
