Today, millions of Americans are traveling to spend Thanksgiving Day with their loved ones. But for the astronauts currently aboard the International Space Station, going home for the holiday isn’t an option. The station will host a Thanksgiving meal of its own, but while we’ve come a long way from the powders and edible goo of early spaceflight, the irradiated turkey and freeze-dried beans are a far cry from home cooking. When John Glenn first ...

As awesome as they are, we don't have a Nintendo DS or any portable gaming device that we carry around with us religiously. And we'd have to think that some, if not most, of the adult world is with us on that. So when we find ourselves stranded alone in a strange place where you'd rather not look at the guy sitting next to you, we find ourselves playing the free trial of Brick Breaker ...

The Criterion Collection just launched their new web site, complete with the option to watch several movies online. It's $5 for a week rental and that's applied toward the cost of the film on DVD or Blu-ray. Not sure about the quality...the excellent intro movie on the home page says "high quality"...not sure if that means HD or what. There are only 17 movies online -- including Au Revoir Les Enfants, Solaris, and Lord of ...

Miss The Middleman, ABC Family's show about an upstanding superhero and his apprentice Wendy? Me too. That's why I dug up this clip of Middleman actor Matt Keeslar explaining just what's wrong with The Lady And The Tramp, and by extension all stories about bad boys who "change." True, this scene from The Last Days Of Disco isn't exactly scifi, and neither is Tramp. But the bad-boy-who-changes thing is a scifi cliche, and it's just ...

After many, many hints that this was coming, Pushing Daisies has been cancelled. (So have Dirty Sexy Money and Eli Stone, but I don't watch those shows and therefore don't care.)As so many others have said, the fact that this smart, unusual, gorgeous show has been cancelled while shows like Knight Rider (which I've never watched because every reaction I've seen has been wholly negative) and

OK, this goes too deep for me. I'm a geek, but my powers are mere cantrips in the presence of this master:Obama knows more Star Trek trivia than you ever will. He just doesn't see the need to talk about it and scare off the women.Obama would spend his time with Michelle and the girls whenever he came home from the campaign. And then would stay up all night watching MST3K episodes when they went ...

This is pretty cool … Rob at the Aquaman Shrine shares a page from DC’s official style guide that shows the Pantone color swatches used for several of their characters: “I love how distinctive those poses by Jose Luis Garcia Lopez are–Green Arrow with his bow, Plastic Man being goofy, Batman a bit stand-offish,” Rob writes. He also notes the colors used to create Aquaman’s uniform, in case you were wondering what my title was ...

Many students don’t even want a college e-mail address these days because they already have well-established digital identities before they arrive on campus. That’s the conclusion that officials at Boston College came to in a recent review of their online services. So the college recently decided to stop offering full e-mail accounts to incoming students starting next fall. Instead of a standard college e-mail account, next year’s freshmen will be offered an e-mail-forwarding service that ...

I am sad for Google on this one... but it seems like a very sensible choice by colleges. Best of all - students get to keep their data when they leave the college.

Hurrah! This Friday marks the return of The IT Crowd, my favorite sitcom/nerd media EVAR, back for a triumphant third season! Although Reynholm jumped out of a high window in the last series, his playboy son Douglas (Matt Berry) shows every sign of carrying on the family name (plundering the pension fund, putting flakes of gold in the drinking water, etc) and more or less takes over tonight's very funny opening episode. That leaves our ...

The bad news is what's up with Rorschach's voice in the new Watchmen trailer, you guys?Point: I feel like the world of superheroes is already demanding enough on the limitations of one's willingness to suspend all of the disbelief that we shouldn't also have to put up with these strained, faux-menacing gravel voices. ...
