Some Shrimp! (1)
permalinkMy channel-surfing halted this morning when I caught a glimpse of this brawny prawn on the Today show. Wow! A jogging shrimp! Shortly thereafter, I clicked over to TheState.com only to find that the cute little crustacean is a fellow South Carolina native. I might’ve known. The Palmetto State may rank at the bottom of most good lists and at the top of most bad lists, but let’s not forget that it’s also the state ...Shared by Jen (1)

I am not totally sure how to respond to this commentary on CNN about Michelle Obama's choice to stay at home during the presidency of Barack Obama. I don't want to be too hard on it, because I do think on one level highlighting that there are also women of color that stay at home and sometimes feel isolated and alienated so they should build relationships, well that is great. Having the resources to be ...Shared by Cecily (0) Jen (1)- Cecily said: Outside of the class assumptions behind the idea of the "stay-at-home" mom, I don't necessarily think that Michelle Obama's choice to stay home is a win for us women of color that are just looking for a role model to let us know we can stay at home nor does it disrupt the racist idea that only white women stay at home. I think it feeds into antiquated notions of motherhood that make her more palatable to a wide audience suggesting that yes, she disrupts the idea of the "normal" American by being black, but is as American as apple pie, by staying in the home.

November 25 is designated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. With the sixtieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights quickly approaching, violence against women persists as an all-too-common violation of human rights and human dignity. Facebook offered to buy Twitter for $500 million of overvalued Facebook stock, Kara Swisher says. By the end of today, the Bush administration will have published a flood of new regulations, pushing them into the 60-day pipeline that gets them enacted just before the Obama administration takes office. The blowback on these “midnight regulations” centers on the minimal opportunity for the public to review and provide input into the process. The speed with which these rules have been shoved through mocks public participation: the Interior Department reportedly had 15 experts, ...Shared by Alec M Resnick (0) Jen (1)Contribute comment
