Posted by Prakash Chandran, User Experience DesignerSeemingly small improvements can make a surprisingly big difference to people who use our products every day. Take Google Calendar, where over the past few months we've made a bunch of little improvements in direct response to feedback from our most active users.Emailing guestsWe've long offered the ability to email meeting attendees, which can be extremely useful for sharing last-minute details or distributing meeting minutes afterward. But it was ...

Google Docs will expand beyond documents. After adding support for storing PDFs, Google Docs will provide ways to create photo albums. It's not very clear if you'll be able to access the photos stored in Picasa Web Albums or create different photo albums, but GDrive is certainly here and its name is Google Docs. The first screenshot has been created using information from Google's code, which already includes an icon of the photo section. The other ...

This is interesting. So if this is true, with a google account you can create a domain and have access to:- email- IM- calendar- spreadsheets- docs- presentations- photosFor free. There's YouTube if you want to stretch the analogy. And I guaran-goddam-ty you that they have a music sharing app. All "management" in iTunes is is glorified search anyway. They can easily replicate that with Ajax, and all that's left is for you to upload all your music to their cloud. I agree with this re: GDRive. They've skipped the whole concept. Why would you care about a "drive" if everything's just uploaded and accessible? And who needs Live Mesh? Sure seems to me like they're going to be the repository for all your data, accessible via the browser, and they'll leave the OS to MS/Apple.All the OS will be is a glorified browser launcher, just like people worried about with Netscape years ago.

Filed under: Security, Windows, Freeware, Browsers I'm not a big Opera fan, but I have to say I'm pretty impressed with Operator - a portable version with built-in Tor (hence the semi-clever name) anonymous browsing.Download the 7mb zip and extract it to your flash drive, and you've got an excellent way to keep your surfing on public and work computers safe and private. I was surprised with the speed at which pages loaded, having used ...

Filed under: Blogging, Social SoftwareAdobe AIR-based microblogging client Twhirl already supported Twitter, Friendfeed and Seesmic, and now its coverage of the world of mini-updates gets even broader with the addition of Identi.ca. Identi.ca is something like a less-popular open-source version of Twitter. This is a big deal for the Identi.ca folks, because Twhirl may actually be better-known than their service. Along with potentially pumping up the userbase of a fledgling microblogging site, Twhirl has also ...

I have a new rule for deciphering the utterances of politicians. As soon as one says that he or she is the victim of a political conspiracy, I replace the words “political conspiracy” with the words “yes I am guilty”. The way in which politicians cry “conspiracy” when they are caught stealing our money is becoming tedious and laughable. Come up with something more original guys! The latest example is our dear Minister of Sport, ...
